Carnegie Mellon University is Hiring a CO-DIRECTOR OF THE LEARNING SCIENCES FOR INNOVATORS PROGRAM Near Pittsburgh, PA

DescriptionThe Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is a living laboratory where we investigate the relationship between computer technology, human activity and society. Founded in 1993, the HCII is a place where we work to understand and build technology that harmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and social environments through interdisciplinary research and education in design, computer science, and behavioral and social sciences. We research how people work, play, and communicate within groups, organizations, and social structures, then we design, build, and evaluate technologies and tools to support human and social activities.
In this role, successful candidates will direct a new program for the training of educational technology entrepreneurs across Africa alongside other faculty co-directors. This program consists of a number of components, including online courses, in-person and remote workshops, and mentoring support for hundreds of entrepreneurs in 8 countries who are participating in a startup technology accelerator in their country. The successful candidate will coordinate across these accelerators at a high level to assess accelerator and entrepreneur needs and aspirations. They will plan upcoming programming that meet these needs and aspirations, including guiding monitoring and evaluation strategies, aligning across program components by setting focus and guiding the direction of other team members, and tracking program impact to ensure that we are meeting our goals. They will additionally identify and engage in research opportunities with companies in the program.
Excellent communication and organization skills are essential for this role as the candidate will be coordinating with accelerators, CMU staff, entrepreneurs and the funder of the program. This should include overseeing the work of the whole team across both the CMU Pittsburgh and CMU Africa campuses.

  • Supporting research initiatives led by Ph.D. students or postdoctoral fellows
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in learning experience design, instructional design, HCI, or a related area.
  • 7 years of relevant experience with educational programming including online courses, workshops, or other types of learning experiences.
