POSITION TITLE: AQUATICS TECHNICIAN
DIVISION: MONON COMMUNITY CENTER
REPORTS TO: RECREATION SERVICES MANAGER: OPERATIONS AND AQUATICS
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT - $15.00-$17.00 per hour

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of the year-round aquatic facilities. Responsibilities to include monitoring of pools and grounds and reporting of any hazardous conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Assisting on major maintenance projects and fixing emergency situations.
• Assist in maintaining normal operations of the aquatic facilities utilizing a maintenance schedule that includes backwashing of filters and cleaning of chemical feeder.
• Monitors general mechanical operations of the aquatic facility.
• Ensures that all equipment malfunctions and hazardous conditions are reported immediately.
• Monitors and records water quality readings including pH, chlorine levels, total alkalinity and calcium hardness.
• Help to ensure that all aquatic facilities remain in compliance with all local, state, and national health code standards.
• Monitor inventory of equipment and supplies in assigned area; initiate requests for new or replacement materials; research equipment for potential purchase.
• Ensure cleanliness of pool area.
• Monitor and coordinate maintenance of pool pumps, filters, chemical controllers, Pulsar units, UV equipment, acid delivery system, Dekron units, and pool heaters.
• Assists in implementing Emergency Action Plan.
• Completes all required reports and paperwork.
• Assists Aquatic management with in-service training. Periodically leads training sessions on pool maintenance items.
• Supervise and perform routine power-washing duties as needed.
• Monitor and coordinate maintenance of splash pads, including routine power washing and chemical management.
• Assist with splash pad operations.
• Completes other assignments as indicated.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

• Ability to communicate professionally.
• Ability to pass a respirator test for use of a respirator for longer than 5 minutes.
• Ability to effectively enforce applicable safety and health regulations.
• Ability to complete a Monon specific vehicle training.
• Must attend all preseason trainings.

Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

• Possess current certification in American Red Cross First Aid/CPR.
• CPO Certification or AFO certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Work may be in extreme heat and sun and within moderate to loud environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be able to handle heavier loads in an emergency.
• Ability to pass a respirator test for use of a respirator for longer than 5 minutes.
