Position Summary
The Fund Management (FM) team is responsible for the operation of Carlyle’s Europe Buyout, Europe Technology, MENA, & Africa funds. AVPs within FM are assigned to one or more investment funds & are responsible for supporting all aspects of the funds’ operations including quarterly valuations, investment funding & execution, ongoing deal support, cash management & credit facility compliance, investor reporting, compliance, tax & legal matters (including structuring), as well as internal financial planning & analysis for the business units. FM also supports the fundraising process (successor fund raises, new fund products, & external co-investments), along with any other matters that arise in the management & operations of the funds.
Qualified candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced environment in a role that has high visibility & accountability, with high-pressure tasks & competing priorities in a deadline-oriented environment. This position must be able to lead self & team to prioritize multiple concurrent, complex tasks while maintaining a strong attention to detail & fostering a positive, collaborative team environment. Strong communication skills (written & oral) are a must. A successful candidate will have the ability & confidence to communicate with investment professionals (deal team), investors, & external service providers, while partnering with various internal departments to achieve desired business outcomes. The AVP will manage & develop at least one Analyst on an ongoing basis, while actively collaborating with a broader FM team.

Key Duties/
Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities
Support the Investment Committee, Fund Heads & Investment Teams:
  • Lead closings of investment purchases, follow-on fundings, distributions, & dispositions, in coordination with deal team. Liaise with legal counsel & Tax to summarize & communicate complex deal fundings across multiple departments. Lead coordination & issue resolution
  • Manage documentation of investment authorization, allocation, funds flow, certification, deal funding, etc.
  • Review SPA & other deal transaction documents; provide feedback to investment teams
  • Coordinate fx hedge settlements & document hedge covenants
  • Coordinate with Luxembourg FM for all country-specific requirements related to investment
  • Ensure availability of capital to meet all funding requirements
  • Coordinate with Partnership Accounting (PA) & Investment/Fund Tax to distribute realized investment proceeds in a timely manner
  • Support Investment Committee process & portfolio review process
  • Oversee co-investment fundraising for acquisitions
Manage & Oversee Quarterly Valuations:
  • Ownership of review & analysis of fund portfolio valuations to ensure compliance
  • Present fund portfolio valuations to valuation committee
  • Manage junior FM team members
  • Lead review & resolution of comments by Corporate Valuation Group & external auditors
Ongoing FM & Business Operations:
  • Monitor ongoing compliance with Fund Limited Partnership Agreements, investor side letters, & other regulatory requirements
  • Oversee review of capital call memo, calculations & allocations prepared by PA
  • Provide input to PA as to applicable treatment of distribution proceeds
  • Work with Fund Head on budgeting & tracking of Fund’s profitability, including carried interest projections
  • Oversee preparation & review Investor Advisory Committee presentations
Fund Reporting:
  • Drive timeline & quality review for portfolio reporting to investors (QUI, IAC materials, quarterly LP update presentations) and fund/segment reporting to Corporate Accounting
  • Support Fund & Segment CFO’s in preparing presentations & ad hoc financial analysis
  • Coordinate preparation & review of key performance metrics & detailed data requests
  • Assist with preparation of & provide support for annual fund operating
  • Support analysis & insights of portfolio or platform data, including scenario planning & IRR maximisation
  • Work closely with PA to ensure transactions are appropriately reflected in financial statements
  • Manage external audit timeline & deliverables related to valuations, transactions, & legal matters
  • Assist Luxembourg AIFM legal team with responding to comments on LPAs from CSSF
Support fundraising (including new products & external co-investments):
  • Coordinate with IR Management team & oversee FM aspects of fundraising & investor outreach

Qualifications

Requirements
Education and Certifications
  • Masters or bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or accounting required
  • Exceptional candidates in other majors considered, particularly those with relevant coursework or professional experience and strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Excellent academic record required
  • ACA, CFA, MBA is strongly desired
  • Data Visualization certification and experience is a significant differentiator
Professional Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in an analytical or financial role, preferably in the asset management industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative analysis and financial modelling
  • Strong finance and valuation knowledge with the capability and desire to learn and apply the financial principles related to private equity
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple key stakeholders
  • Experience supporting technology implementation is a plus
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role
Competencies & Attributes
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) skills required
  • Strong financial modeling skills and the ability to create ad-hoc models as required, strong analytical skills a must
  • Understanding of complex valuation concepts, including DCF, WACC, Black Scholes, enterprise valuations, etc.
  • Data visualization, Power BI skills are a key differentiator
  • Ability to apply abstract financial and accounting theory to real world investment scenarios
  • Ability to operate in a demanding, fast-paced environment with multiple and fast-changing deadlines
  • Ability to plan, coordinate various parties and execute an action plan
  • Strong, confident, and proactive communication skills (written and oral) – frequent direct communication with Investment Professionals, Fund Management colleagues, and inter-department colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal skills a must; demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to high-quality work product; attention to detail a must
  • Self-starter: creative thinker that can provide solutions to roadblocks
  • Significant overtime as well as availability outside of normal business hours required frequently, especially during quarterly valuation cycles, in connection with deal closings and during fundraising periods
  • High level of integrity and must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary matters
