Carlow University is Hiring a Retention Specialist Near Pittsburgh, PA

The Retention Specialist is partially funded by a Title III grant and reports to the Director of Student Retention. The Specialist assists with the promotion of a positive and successful learning experience for students to increase student retention, success, and completion. The Specialist is expected to be thoroughly familiar with Carlow's programs and services and admission and enrollment processes. The Specialist serves as a go-to resource for students.

Essential Responsibilities:

* Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive student success and retention plan.

* Identify and provide proactive outreach to at-risk students, including those on academic warning and probation, connecting them to intentional intervention and student support activities.

* Assist with outreach to appropriate divisions, departments, and classes; provide students with information about program area(s) and services available; provide faculty with information about services available and opportunities for faculty participation.

* Monitor academic progress of students by analyzing progress reports from learning management system/self-reported measures, determining eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree, identifying current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring), and referring students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.

* Develop and implement student success and outreach plans that utilize proactive strategies to re-engage students who need additional support.

* Design and deliver study skills curriculum Provide students and classes with Success Tips (stress management, time management, how to study, how to test, etc.)

* Assist in the planning and implementation of Summer Bridge Programs.

* Plan events for students and create opportunities for them to explore the local community.

* Collaborate with campus partners on workshops and programming that support retention and student success, including study groups, linked tutoring, and embedded tutoring.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

* A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team.

* Experience working with university students.

* Understand student development theory specifically in the areas of first year, commuter and transfer student needs and engagement.
