The Residential Programming & Activities Manager creates, oversees, and implements daily therapeutic programming and extracurricular recreation programming for youth in residential treatment. This person will also collaborate with the agency’s Development Department regarding all volunteer-based programming at the residential treatment center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching staff to create/plan/coordinate therapeutic outings, activities, and visits for youth in residential treatment; scheduling, managing, and leading community volunteers engaged in programming at the center; ensuring DCFS-mandated community-integration programming requirements are met; designing and implementing on-campus therapeutic programming; and supervising summer/seasonal therapeutic recreation staff. The Residential Activities coordinator works in close collaboration with the Residential Program Managers, Residential Clinical Supervisor, Service Coordination Supervisor, Development staff, and Program and Agency Leaders to maintain the highest possible quality of evidence-based, trauma-informed, therapeutic recreation and extracurricular programming.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

Designs and implements a therapeutic programming schedule for youth in residential treatment using best practices and in the fields of therapeutic recreation and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Designs and implements structured therapeutic extracurricular activities and schedule for youth in residential treatment using best practices and in the fields of therapeutic recreation and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Synthesizes therapeutic approaches from the fields of Social Work, Professional Counseling, Nursing, Psychiatry, Therapeutic Recreation, Education, and related fields.

Facilitates therapeutic activities for youth, and documents billable therapeutic activities.

Coaches, teaches, and guides program staff in the proper implementation and facilitation of therapeutic programming and recreation in the clinical milieu.

Ensures transportation for youth to-and-from outings, visits, activities and appointments in collaboration with program administrative team members.

Maintains, monitors, and adheres to an annual activities budget.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work, Human Services, Education, Juvenile Justice, Nursing, Rehabilitation Services, or a closely related field is required, Master’s Degree preferred.
