Description
Position Summary:
Provide crisis intervention and advocacy to individuals and their children who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault (DV and SA).
Duties and Responsibilities:
a) Interface with the outside communities advocating for domestic violence awareness.
b) Provide one on one empowerment-based advocacy support services to outside DV survivors.
c) Coordinate resources to meet the basic material needs (toiletries, food, etc) of outreach clients and will often deliver these resources to clients in need.
d) Provide support group sessions both at the Cora Lamping Center and within the community
e) Provide information and referral to domestic violence survivors about the services provided within the community.
f) Attends and participates in community collaborative taskforces and boards as assigned.
g) Prepare and deliver presentations on domestic violence, stalking, teen dating violence, healthy relationships and other relevant topics to various community venues as assigned by supervisor.
h) Participate in crisis line backup rotation.
i) Participate in on-call rotation.
j) Assist with safety planning, providing outreach advocacy and crisis support.
k) Assist the legal advocate with court duties, personal protection orders, and no contact orders.
l) Project a good role model, keeping confidentialities in dealing with clients/staff.
m) Follows all VOCA grant goals, objectives and outcomes.
n) Completes all VOCA required electronic reports within seven (7) days of calendar month end.
o) Keeps and maintains accurate client documentation using database software in a timely manner.
p) Completes all VOCA time sheets weekly.
q) Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
a) Have empathy and passion for working with survivors of domestic violence.
b) Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
c) Must possess good organizational skills
d) Ability to speak publicly and to present information on Domestic Violence to diverse people and organizations.
e) Ability to respond supportively to persons in crisis and assemble relevant facts
f) Must have knowledge of and interest in women’s issues; particularly the dynamics of domestic violence.
g) Ability to complete multiple duties and tasks correctly and on time without being prompted.
h) Ability to use Information Technology, including the Internet, social media, and Microsoft Office Suite products.
i) Ability to learn and use program specific computer applications.
j) Ability to cooperatively work as a team, splitting duties and working together to provide the best services possible to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Minimum Education and Experience:
a) Associates Degree in psychology, social work, or counseling preferred or two years of related work experience.
b) One year’s experience with direct client service preferred.
c) Preferred fluent in writing and speaking Spanish.
