How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

$25,000 Sign-On Bonus Carilion Clinic is a six-hospital health system located in beautiful Southwest Virginia. Its flagship hospital, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), is a 763-bed academic medical center, Level I Trauma Center, tertiary/quaternary referral center, and Certified Primary Stroke center that has consistently been ranked by US News as a Best Hospital in the state of Virginia. Carilion Children's, a 92-bed "hospital within a hospital", includes a 24-bed inpatient General Pediatrics unit, a 60-bed Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an eight-bed Pediatric ICU, a 15-bed inpatient pediatric psychiatric unit, and a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department. It is a four-time Magnet-dedicated facility and western Virginia's only Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center with advanced medical transport units. Carilion Clinic is also affiliated with the Virginia Tech-Carilion School of Medicine and has numerous post-graduate training programs, including multiple medical and surgical residencies and fellowships.

The Pediatric ICU pharmacist position is a new role for which we are seeking a leader in pediatrics. This specialist will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to critically ill pediatric patients and will develop and maintain a clinical practice by participating in clinical rounds in the PICU. The PICU specialist will work closely with a core group of pediatric pharmacists in Clinical Staff I, Clinical Staff II, and NICU specialty roles to enhance clinical pediatric services. Our pediatric pharmacists have established a rapport and close working relationships with a variety of pediatric providers, including pediatric intensivists, hospitalists, and multiple subspecialists (e.g. surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, palliative, ortho, etc.). An additional focus for this pharmacist will be to pursue process improvement initiatives to promote the growth of our pediatric clinical pharmacy services and improve patient care. The PICU pharmacist will work every fifth weekend, as well as one major and one minor holiday in a pediatric-focused clinical zone.

CRMH also has a pharmacy residency program comprised of 13 residents, including seven PGY1s and six PGY2s in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, and Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership. Clinical specialists are expected to serve as preceptors for pharmacy students and residents for elective rotations, as well as participate in other resident learning experiences. Pediatric pharmacists will be required to participate in pediatric emergency response and engage in pediatric committee work. Various other clinical experiences involving pediatric process improvement, Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS), medical resident and student education, and research opportunities exist.

Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure. An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is required, and a PGY2 in Pediatrics or equivalent previous pediatric experience is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as demonstrate advanced skills in critical thinking and analysis. They must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
