CARGO-Therapeutics is Hiring a Senior Scientist, Analytical Development Near San Carlos, CA

CARGO is seeking a self-motivated and versatile individual to join us as a Senior Scientist within the Analytical Development organization. In this position, you will work closely with the Process Development, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Translational Medicine, Biometrics, and Regulatory team members and will contribute to novel assay development for product understanding of CARGO Therapeutics’ pipeline candidates, fit‑for‑purpose method qualification, SOP/technical report authoring/review, life cycle management of assays, data analysis, and execution of routine analytical testing. This individual should be highly organized, a quick learner, and largely independent.
This is an onsite, lab-based role located in San Carlos, CA.
WHAT YOU’LL DO AT CARGO THERAPEUTICS
  • Lead novel and innovative product characterization studies to interrogate immune and CAR T-cell biology through the development and execution of robust analytical flow-based phenotyping and functional methods
  • Support the identification of potential Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) and Critical Process Parameters (CPPs)
  • Collaborate closely within Process Sciences and Quality Control groups to support, execute, and provide oversight in method optimization/troubleshooting/root cause investigations, extended process/product characterization, and technology transfer
  • Develop extended characterization and release assays, including associated SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and technical protocols/reports (transfer, validation, bridging, etc.)
  • Successfully execute and document laboratory procedures and experiments with great attention to detail, including Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) record keeping
  • Analyze data and perform integrative correlation analyses and prepare reports or data packages for review
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
THE RIGHT STUFF: Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in cell therapy, immunology, or a closely related field; PhD with 4 years of experience is preferred (MS with 6 years or BS with 8 years will also be considered)
  • Industry experience in cell and gene therapy within an Analytical Development role is preferred
  • Strong comprehension of T-cell and CAR T biology including principles of memory, exhaustion, senescence, effector function and how these attributes may be influenced by process or vector optimizations
  • Experience with assay development, method qualification, and routine testing in GLP and/or GMP environment
  • Technical expertise in relevant technologies used in cell therapies, with an emphasis on multiparameter flow cytometry; experience with co-culture assays is preferred
  • Prior experience with metabolomic attribute assessment and molecular-based methods including next generation sequencing (NGS) is nice to have, but not required
  • Excellent technical writing experience in a regulatory environment such as protocols, reports, and SOPs
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with knowledge related to scientific data analysis software for applications such as GraphPad Prism, JMP, NovoExpress/FCS Express (flow/spectral cytometry), and R (Seurat, sequencing)
  • Availability to work extended hours to meet deadlines and willingness to travel, when necessary
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and willing to accept temporary responsibilities outside of initial job description
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences and governing bodies
  • Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills in various situations
PAY RANGE
The combined pay range for this role is $114,000 - $156,000. Title and salary will be based on our assessment of skills and experience relevant to our needs for the role.
