Careers is Hiring a Program Assistant – Rehabilitation Technician, Brain Injury Day Treatment Program, Full-time Near Jacksonville, FL

Under the leadership of the Manager of the Brain Injury Day Treatment program, the Program Assistant provides hands-on support to ensure the smooth operations of the Brain Injury Day Treatment program. This is a group-based program for individuals that have recently had a brain injury (e.g., TBI, CVA, etc.), and are participating in group-based and individual-based rehabilitation treatment services. Patient care hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., plus there are additional non-patient care hours that are more flexible. The Program Assistant has multiple roles within the program. This includes providing minimal assistance with toileting needs, providing assistance to ensure safety of patients while walking, ensuring that the patients understand and comprehend group activities, and providing additional one-on-one assistance when patient’s comprehension is poor. The Program Assistant will establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with patient, family members, and co-workers, serving as an ambassador for the program at all times.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with transfer of patients to/from wheelchairs and adaptive equipment.
  • Safely escorting patients to their treatment rooms, bathrooms, and occasionally leaving of the building.
  • Ensuring all patients are picked up by their caregivers at the end of the treatment day.
  • Assist the treating therapists (PT/OT/ST) when the therapist requires additional hands-on with the patient, including when a patient requires additional assistance in understanding group tasks and individual tasks.
  • Assists with maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment. Follows the schedule of cleaning per department policy.
  • Assists with restocking of supplies, cleanliness, and storage of department supplies.
  • Ensure positive experiences for patients, family members, and others throughout the day.
  • Perform clerical duties such as obtaining attendance records, having patients complete paperwork at the beginning and end of their stay in the program, and entering that data into an excel file.
  • Grocery shop for food, cleaning supplies, and additional supplies that are needed by the treating therapists and clinicians within the program.
  • Cook and/or over-see the patient cooking. The food for lunch will be served to all the patients within the BIDT program.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the program.
  • Maintain safety of all patients.
  • Recognizes emergency procedures and reacts appropriately.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Hours: 32-40 hours/week; 8:30-5:00pm

Location: 3901 University Blvd South, Jacksonville, FL 32216

Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree or higher, preferably in a health-related field. Other concentrations will be considered. 
  • Experience with individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities.
  • Knowledge and experience with individuals that have had a brain injury (e.g., CVA, TBI, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be friendly, respectful, professional, and demonstrate a passion for people.
  • Must be a patient, courteous listener, and show empathy to all patients and family members.
  • Must be flexible with an ability to handle a changing environment.
  • Must have a familiarity/working knowledge of Program Mission, Vision and Goals.
