Position Purpose: Under limited supervision, the State Opioid Response SOR) Grant Prevention Specialist delivers prevention strategies targeted to raise awareness, prevent abuse and overdose related to stimulant and opioids. 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services.
  • Certified Prevention Specialist or obtain certification within 18 months of hire.

Job Qualifications:

  • Prior experience facilitating groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Public speaking experience(preferred).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Promote destigmatization of the disease of addiction.
  2. Understand and demonstrate knowledge of the Strategic Prevention Framework and Public Health Model of prevention.
  3. Coordinate services with referral sources and other community resources.
  4. Provide direct service hours to community
  5. Accurately complete required reports, documentation, and outcomes evaluation tools within prescribed time.
  6. Design prevention programs to meet the needs of the community and/or special interest groups.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the disease process of addiction, the core functions of prevention, and apply these appropriately to job duties.
  8. Use and/or develop evaluation tools to measure outcomes for prevention programs.
  9. Meet the short-term outcomes of the SOR3.
  10. Partner with Integrated Provider Network (IPN) Grant prevention staff and Strategic Initiatives to Prevent Drug Overdoses (SIPDO) Grant prevention staff to increase capacity to deliver overdose prevention services.
  11. Provide training to clients, families, and healthcare providers on the following subjects: Stimulant Use Disorder, Opiate Use Disorder, Medication Assisted Treatment, Overdose training, Naloxone distribution, and Stigma. Other topics may be required in the future by the Iowa Health & Human Services in relation to this grant.
  12. Coordinate media campaigns as required by IHHS.
  13. Promote Tele-Naloxone and local pharmacy Naloxone programs.
  14. Attend required SOR Monthly Provider Meetings.
  15. Complete all required training for SOR per IHHS and Rosecrance Jackson Centers.
  16. Professionally represent Rosecrance and the Prevention program at all Rosecrance/work-related functions.
  17. Stay abreast of local, state, and national Prevention programs, trends, research, and other relevant information.
  18. Serve as a member of the Rosecrance Team and participate in all team meetings and activities as directed.
  19. Exercise confidentiality in keeping with the professional Code of Conduct and within the framework of the law.
  20. Deliver exceptional customer service consistently to every customer.
  21. Serve as a role model and demonstrate positive guest relations in representing the agency.
  22. Assume other related responsibilities as delegated by management.

Schedule: 8-hour shifts

  • Shift: 8:30AM-5PM
  • Monday thru Friday; occasional evenings 
  • Hybrid schedule available after training period

Work Location: Rosecrance Jackson Centers, Spencer, IA

  • {Onsite, Remote (must live in WI, IL, or IA)}
