About the Role

If you have a knowledge and passion for plants, love to learn and continuously improve, and enjoy working with others to accomplish a common goal, then we would love for you to join our team as our Plant Protection Manager for our beautiful, expansive Woodlake, California nursery. In this critical role, you will help us grow responsibly as you oversee the execution and management of all integrated pest management practices conducted at the nursery to ensure plants are grown at the highest quality in a responsible and safe manner. To do so, you will train and develop a team while setting nursery wide priorities. 

What You’ll Do

You will…

  • schedule all integrated pest management programs at the nursery and oversee the team responsible for accomplishing those goals within a continuously improving work environment.
  • develop and coach the team providing initial training as well as ongoing training, communication and support in all areas including pest identification and best practices, ensuring training programs are updated as necessary. 
  • oversee and maintain compliance with local, state, and federal agencies related to our pest management programs and applications. 
  • proactively research alternative pest management practices that are environmentally endurable, including but not limited to beneficials and biological control agents (BCAs).
  • effectively collaborate and communicate with other managers and departments to ensure nursery goals are met. 
  • ensure accurate and timely record keeping and reporting, and monitor, measure, and share production efficiency in the department, coaching the team for optimum efficiency.
  • represent and enforce Monrovia values and philosophy, supporting the operating plan using Lean Six Sigma tools and ensuring a safe working environment.

Who You Are

You…

  • have a bachelor’s degree in horticulture and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in pest management and application practices in the nursery or related field. 
  • have a Pest Control Advisor License (PCA) and a Pesticide Applicator Certificate (PAC).
  • have detailed knowledge in plant sciences such as plant physiology, epidemiology, or botany. 
  • can understand technical data such as in research reports or Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • can remain current on technical advances while actively pursuing research.
  • are proficient at oral and written communication and have excellent listening skills.
  • have excellent math and computer skills and are proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Access Database, DSI, BI and working within our Oracle ERP and reporting systems. 
  • have strong organizational skills, detail orientation, and focus on quality and accuracy.
  • ideally are bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • possess a valid driver’s license.
  • can occasionally stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. Lift up to 20 pounds at a time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
