Mechanical Engineer in Albuquerque, NM

Curia provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. 

The Engineering Department provides the capacity to manufacture pharmaceuticals in an efficient, timely, and safe manner, thereby contributing to the profitability of the business unit by maintaining or modifying production equipment and related systems. The Mechanical Equipment Engineer will work in supporting manufacturing operations both on the manufacturing floor and off, spending time within the manufacturing operations is required and will be a priority at times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help develop and manage multiple manufacturing projects from conception through completion, this includes working with technical operations on hardening existing production tools to achieve improved uptime performance. 
  • Able to define, prioritize and achieve realistic, specific goals and objectives 
  • Meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities 
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, administrative staff, managers in different departments and outside contractors 
  • Understand the facility, its function, how it works and dealing with the associated interdependent systems such as all the related manufacturing equipment: i.e., filling lines, capering and stoppering systems as well as Autoclaves
  • Capable of technical support of plant compressed air, nitrogen, and process vacuum to include design, modifications, upgrades, and support
  • Familiar with the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace, NFPA 70B Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance, NFPA 79 Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery.
  • Produce/Support engineering documentation efforts
  • Ensure planning and tracking of all assigned projects
  • Provide specifications and cost estimates for major equipment acquisitions
  • Assure that facility engineering drawings and associated documentation (including work orders and ECOs) are effectively and compliantly completed, updated, and maintained
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Collaborate with internal multi-disciplinary team members to design/modify equipment to support cGMP operations and product development
  • Serve as a supporting engineer for design, fabrication, installation, and troubleshooting of equipment and facility systems

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering. Entry level role but experience in the pharmaceutical area preferred.

Language Skills: 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: 

Knowledge of Internet software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to organize time in order to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement technical writing and instructions.
  • Effective inter-personal relation skills, while maintaining the adaptability to achieve company goals.
  • Verbally expresses ideas and facts in a clear, logical, concise and in accepted grammatical style.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
