Curia provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. 

The major responsibility of the Associate Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is to assure and maintain a safe and healthy workplace for all employees. The Associate EHS Specialist will ensure Curia is compliant with its own company safety policies and programs as well as all safety standards at the local, state, and federal levels. More specifically, the role will update and manage EHS programs, train personnel, conduct audits/inspections, coordinate with outside contractors, maintain safety documentation, and respond to safety related incidents.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage and update EHS Programs and ensure alignment with corporate standards
  2. Manage and track safety metrics and incidents utilizing EHS management software
  3. Oversee Hazardous Waste Management Program, including labeling, containment, proper disposal, employee training, and documentation, to ensure regulatory agency compliance
  4. Develop, prepare, and deliver classroom instructions and “hands on” training courses
  5. Participate in the investigation process for incidents, near misses, and hazards. Identify root causes and assist with implementation of corrective actions
  6. Maintain chemical safety (chemical ordering approval and inventory management) evaluation workplace controls (eng, admin. PPE)
  7. Perform and complete Job Safety Analyses, safety permits, and toolbox talks
  8. Oversee Contractor Safety Program and assist with site construction expansion project
  9. Support Industrial Hygiene Program including new product evaluation, IH Sampling; chemical, noise, etc.
  10. Advise workers on proper ergonomics such as chair positioning, repetitive motion, and lifting techniques
  11. Evaluate current equipment, products, facilities, or processes and those planned for future use
  12. Serve as a member of the safety committe

Qualifications 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field
  • Minimum 0-2 years’ relevant experience
Preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ relevant experience

Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work in a normal office environment and is frequently required to enter the production area of a typical manufacturing facility which has moving mechanical parts, and may have fumes or airborne particles, cold/heat, wet and/or humid conditions, low levels of toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. From time to time the employee may be required to don PPE including respiratory protection, full body suits and other forms of PPE for close up safety and IH evaluations.
