The New Mexico Medical Board (Board) is the state agency responsible for the regulation and licensing of medical doctors (physicians), physician assistants, anesthesiologist assistants, genetic counselors, polysomnographic technologists, naprapaths and naturopaths.
The Executive Director's primary responsibilities are to manage the Board's operations that includes a total of nineteen (19) staff and an annual budget of over $2,500,000. The Director oversees licensing, compliance and investigations of Medical Professionals licensed in the State of New Mexico and provides direction to the agency staff. This position is responsible for recommending and drafting rules, policy and legislation as it relates to the Medical Board. The incumbent serves as the representative of the Medical Board to all local, state and national organizations.
The incumbent shall have a strong knowledge of regulatory processes, to include the licensing, disciplining and ensuring compliance of medical professional rules and regulations; is familiar with legislative and educational processes related to the medical profession; and has a strong knowledge of the state and federal laws/regulations applicable to the medical profession. Has the ability to provide strong and ethical leadership and governance for the Board; possess strong communication, interpersonal and management skills; exercise sound judgment; and appropriately advise the Board on matters related to the regulation of the medical profession in New Mexico.
