Development Director
About the Role:
chica project is looking for a Development Director to drive our resource development work. This pivotal role will lead the organization's growth and sustainability by designing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, building donor relationships, and expanding our network of supporters. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and the Development Team.
About You:
  • You have proven success in a nonprofit fundraising and development role for 5 years with familiarity fundraising for youth or gender-based programs and/or have a strong understanding of the Boston philanthropic community and local networks.
  • You possess a fundraising generalist skill set having experience with a variety of strategies and methods to engage foundations, individual donors, corporations, and government funders.
  • Those who know you well describe you as a systems builder. You think about all the moving parts of a project and are able to create standardized repeatable processes for your team to tackle complex projects.
  • You have experience implementing and managing donor management software and fundraising tools. Experience with asana and project management, CRM background (Salesforce preferred).
  • You have a history of people-centered leadership, with an orientation toward mentorship, collaboration, and development of individuals and teams, that strengthens relationships and builds skill.
  • You're in close relationships with communities of color and/or young people. You possess an understanding of systems of oppression including how nonprofits can play a role in upholding those systems. You may have experience with Community Centric Fundraising practices. You have applied a values-based screening and assessment, you may have even said no to a misaligned funding partnership in the past.
  • You resonate with chica project's mission and embody our organizational values in your professional life.
Responsibilities:
  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan to support chica project's $1.3M budget. The plan should be reflective of chica project's organizational strengths, values, and fundraising capacity.
  • Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Collaborate closely with the Executive Director to build out an individual giving program cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with donors and crafting engaging and personalized donor communications and recognition strategies.
  • Data and Systems Management: Lead the upgrade of chica's fundraising database to support donor relationship management, track funding opportunities, ensure accurate reporting, and streamline fundraising tasks.
  • Team Leadership: Hire, train, and mentor development staff and communicate fundraising goals and progress, including management of a contract-based grant writer.
  • Grant Management: Lead the identification of new grant opportunities, working with the Grant Writer to prepare compelling grant proposals, and track the grant application process. Ensure grant reporting requirements are met accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communications: Collaborate with the Marketing team to support chica project external communications strategy in coordination with fundraising and development priorities.
  • Fundraising Events: Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events and campaigns in collaboration with the chica program team, including virtual and in-person events, to engage supporters, raise funds, and promote Chica Project's mission.
  • Board Engagement : Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Development Committee to leverage their networks, support fundraising initiatives, and provide guidance on development strategy.
  • Budget Oversight: Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and manage the annual development budget.
The current expectation is that this position is hybrid. chica project currently has an office in Quincy, MA that staff members have the option to work from. This position involves regular in-person event or meeting attendance including occasional evening and weekend commitments in the Boston area.
Benefits:
  • The salary range for this role is $90,000-100,000. chica project compensation includes an annual cost of living adjustment.
