The Device Specialist at Cardiovascular Medicine, PLLC facilitates positive patient outcomes by performing device analysis, troubleshooting device abnormalities, and utilizing knowledge of electrocardiography and device functions. The Device Specialist will assess, plan, educate and implement the care of Cardiovascular Medicine, PLLC patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses, or graduate from accredited Paramedic program. May consider certified Medical Assistant with appropriate work experience. Experience in cardiovascular and/or office nursing, or EMS background preferred. Broad experience in device analysis preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Current Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse license in Iowa and Illinois. For paramedics, National Certification required. ACLS certification required. Must have valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance. Completion of Basic ECG course. Pursuit of advanced device education and credentialing recommended. Travel is required with this position. Valid Driver's License and automobile insurance is required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be evaluated based on competence in the following duties and responsibilities:

• Act as a liaison between the physician and his/her patients.
• Possess knowledge of scientific principles required for device functions.
• Apply knowledge of surface and intracardiac electrocardiography.
• Master all pacemaker/device programmers.
• Perform remote device analysis and interpretation.
• Identify rhythm and device abnormalities notifying physicians appropriately and trouble shoot device abnormalities while adhering to Device Clinic Protocol.
• Apply principles of aseptic and sterile technique when appropriate.
• Schedule patient appointments, provide patient education, ensure patient follow-up, and maintain test databases.
• Manage phone calls to patients regarding device management and scheduling of device testing, remote monitoring troubleshooting.
• Apply understanding of intracardiac pulmonary arterial sensor measurements and report accordingly to physicians.
• Monitor patients utilizing external defibrillator technology and report abnormal findings to prescribing physician.
• Assess, clean and treat per physician order surgical wounds post device implant or extract, reporting abnormal findings to prescribing physician.
• Preserve the integrity and confidentiality of all patient information, by limiting access of internal and external PHI to what is specifically necessary, and sharing PHI only when required during the performance of job duties.

• Utilizes effective documentation skills within the electronic medical record.
