Research Engineer

Division: Cardinal Coated Glass Technology Center

Location: Spring Green, WI 53588

Travel Requirements: Occasional

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Material Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Optical Thin Films, or equivalent fields

Cardinal Glass Industries leads the industry in the development of energy saving coatings on glass used in residential windows and doors. Cardinal’s 49 manufacturing sites include the production of float, coated, insulated, tempered, and laminated glass.

Cardinal’s Coated Glass Technology Center in Spring Green, WI is expanding its research team that develops the next generation of window products. We are seeking a self-directed individual with 2 years of research experience who is creative and passionate about discovering new technologies that result in next generation energy efficient window products. 

The Technology Center has 2 magnetron coaters for development of high-performance thin film coating, 2 chemical labs and the following analytical instruments: FIB, XPS, FE-SEM with EDS, XRD, AFM, UV-VIS and FTIR. 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute ideas to the design and development of next generation window products that can be scaled to high-volume manufacturing through individual and team-based projects.
  • Interpret data and develop DOEs to solve technical roadblocks for new projects as well as for existing technologies.
  • Explain and present technical information to co-workers, upper management, customers, and key suppliers.
  • Develop an understanding of Cardinal’s technologies and products to better design industry-relevant products, equipment or technology based on needs and functionality.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Optical Thin Films, or equivalent fields
  • 2 years of research experience.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter, who enjoys both independent and team-based projects.
  • Adept to multi-task and remain flexible to changes in priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
