Reports to: Director, LG Technology

OVERVIEW:
The Laminated Glass Technology Center at Cardinal Glass Industries is seeking an entry-level to mid-level engineer to support research and development projects. As an R&D Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to dig into the design, testing, and evaluation of new and existing glass products for the fenestration industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan and conduct product evaluation activities; proactively identify and resolve issues during the evaluation process.
• Incorporate the latest technology and test methodologies to enhance the understanding of new and existing glazing materials.
• Coordinating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to support existing products and new product development.
• Report test results, including completion of lab test request form, and writing formal reports when appropriate.
• Utilize statistical analysis to develop experimental conclusions and provide recommendations to senior leaders.
• Manage and deliver work assignments on time, in budget, and in accordance with Cardinal’s quality standards.
• Follow all health, safety and housekeeping policies, including keeping the work area organized.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Regular, full-time, in-person attendance at the LG Technology Center.
• Capable of lifting up to 30 lbs and standing for extended durations, as needed.
• Capable of wearing PPE (safety glasses, Kevlar jackets, boots, hearing protection) in a manufacturing environment up to 8 hours per day, as needed.
• Willing and able to travel up to 25% of total work hours per year on a project-dependent basis.
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct, exhibiting a respectful and courteous demeanor at all times.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S):
• B.S. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or other related engineering fields.
• Experience with mechanical, chemical, and environmental testing.

KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Strong scientific and technical acumen, with demonstrated interest and ability to make connections between science/technology and real-world concerns.
• Highly skilled in data analysis and the use of designed experiments.
• First-rate interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication and conflict resolution.
• Skilled in MS Office for use in preparing reports and documents, particularly in MS Excel spreadsheets.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes.
• Ability to work in a team-based environment with minimal supervision.
• Ability to communicate complicated concepts and write technical reports.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn on-the-job skills and wear multiple “hats”.
• Ability to utilize statistical methods and analysis.
• Ability to work with computers, data acquisition equipment, and lab instrumentation.
• Diligent in following safety protocols and recognizing potential hazards.
• Ability to work with and as part of a team including but not limited to managers, employees throughout Cardinal, and vendor partnerships.
• Ability to record project decisions and actions, and communicate project status to key stakeholders on a frequent and consistent basis.
• Ability to exercise good judgement in decision making, ideas, and all aspects relating to the LG Technology Center team, Cardinal, and other company relationships.
