At the Cardinal Cushing Centers, we support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing possibilities and opportunities for growth and advancement. Our programs for students, adults and community members include education, employment training, transition services, residential care, therapeutic and recreational services.
The Custodian/Janitor, part of Housekeeping team, is responsible for the care and cleaning of assigned area of school, residences, office/administration area and/or gymnasium.
· Cleans all floor areas daily, including stair wells, by dust mopping, washing, or vacuuming
· Removes and empties all trash daily (including emptying ashtrays if applicable)
· Thoroughly cleans and sanitizes all bathrooms daily
· Regularly cleans and washes all tile walls
· Cleans all glass doors daily or as needed
· Promptly responds to all emergencies
· Fills in for cleaning of other areas as required, i.e. Culinary Building, Business Office, School, Houses, Bakery, Market Place, Portiuncula Chapel
· During vacation weeks, custodial department is required to share all responsibilities of cleaning the school building, Market Place and Culinary Building
· Informs supervisor of supplies that are needed
· Makes preventative maintenance suggestions
· Follows all OSHA and MSD guidelines
· If last person in the building, maintains the security of the building prior to departure
· Ensures that all cleaning carts and chemicals are stored properly
· Occasionally may be asked to assist with additional duties such as the following:
· shampooing of rugs
· washes windows and screens
· stripping, sealing and finishing of the tile floors
· changes light bulbs
· restores areas to original condition after functions
· assists with snow and debris removal if needed
· Upholds the mission and corporate values of St. Coletta & Cardinal Cushing Schools of Massachusetts
· Regular attendance and promptly reporting to work at the beginning of the scheduled shift are essential functions of this position
· Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned
Related Work Experience
Some custodial experience preferred
Formal Education
High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree)
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
Ability to apply common sense and carry out one- or two-step instructions
Ability to comprehend verbal instructions, at times of a non-routine manner
Ability to operate simple cleaning equipment
Ability to work both independently and as a team player

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
