Description

Job Title: Echo Sonographer/Ultrasound Tech

Department: Echo Lab

Summary: The Echo Sonographer/Ultrasound Tech is responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with policies, values and mission of the organization. Responsible for commonly performed echocardiography procedures with consistent proficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide quality echocardiograms as ordered including comprehensive complete echo reports for physician review.

· Create/input required electronic medical records (EMR) documentation of all services provided and prepare all required paperwork for billing and administrative purposes in a timely manner.

· Perform clerical procedures to include answering phones, billing, and notification of interpreting physician.

· Maintain clean and orderly work area by ensuring equipment is clean, rooms are stocked with linens and supplies.

· Promote teamwork and cooperative effort.

· Understand and apply appropriate quality assurance and improvement processes.

· Assist in the training of in-house staff, students, and new employees.

· Rotate between multiple sites as needed.

· Assist Technical Director and attends required CEU to maintain registry status.

· Perform other duties as assigned by management.

· Travel is required.

· Maintain a good working rapport with all patient-care personnel and other departments requiring frequent interaction and coordination of efforts.

· Communicate concerns and problems through proper written and verbal channels.

· Demonstrate a consistently well-organized approach to all assignments and duties, as designated.

· Observe the clinic dress code.

· Greet patients in a courteous and respectful manner; responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills; and consistently handle all requests in a positive manner.

· Deliver care that is safe in conjunction with the physician orders, and department standards at all times.

· Maintain patient confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications


Qualifications: Experienced Device Technician, Monitor/Telemetry Technician or Holter scanner or other job-related experience requiring ECG interpretation is preferred. This role is for someone who demonstrates strong cardiac rhythm recognition skills and has excellent written and verbal skills to communicate with peers and physicians alike. Must have the ability to perform holter/event monitor scanning, ability to analyze, edit and prepare reports for Cardiologist review. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least six months work related experience or training required. Basic and advanced ECG recognition required. Training as a device tech, monitor or telemetry tech preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: Certification by an approved state or national examination agency as a Certified Rhythm Analysis Tech (CRAT), or must be able to obtain within 2 years of hire. Must have current certification in CPR/BLS.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations.

Math Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

The work is typically performed in an office environment, with a moderate noise level.

To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear on the telephone and in person with individuals and groups. The incumbent will carry equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. The incumbent is required to read and respond to documents in hard copy and electronic form. Requires the full range of body motion including handling patients. Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination required.
