Cappel's Ace Hardware is a family owned business. We are the third generation who have branched out and opened stores in West Des Moines, Norwalk, and Indianola Iowa. Position Description
The Store Manager has responsibility for all store operations, including personnel management, staff motivation, sales, merchandising, maintenance of facilities, inventory control. The store manager accomplishes objectives by personal action and/or delegation of responsibility as appropriate. The store manager is directly responsible to store ownership, and must perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to assure a superior level of customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Must communicate respectfully with owners, supervisors, employees, customers and vendors.
2. Must monitor activities of customers and employees, as well as the general and specific condition of the interior and exterior of the store.
3. Must read and interpret written and printed materials, demonstrating analytical ability and in-depth knowledge of all aspects of management as they relate to the hardware store.
4. Must understand and interpret data presented in statistical or numerical form and be able to use it effectively in managing all aspects of store operations.
5. Must move throughout the store.
6. Must move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
7. Must conscientiously follow company safety rules and procedures.
8. Must maintain dress/grooming standards in accordance with company policy.
9. Actively work with customers to cultivate a good working relationship with contractors and other businesses to meet their supply and tool needs and increase store sales.
10. Must open and close the store, and work a variety of shifts as needed.

Customer Service
Provide positive representation of the store and company.
Proactively assist customers in solving problems.
Record customer purchases on a point-of-sale terminal.
Provide a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as staff members.
Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously and effectively.
Handle customer complaints. Work to resolve problems with the customer while also having the stores interest taken into consideration.
Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products.

Store Operations
Ensure a positive, professional and safe work environment for all associates and cashiers.
Supervise the general operations of the entire store.
Be responsible for ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels to ensure store profitability in compliance with corporate objectives.
Ensure compliance with all practices, policies and procedures necessary to manage inventory shrink. Monitor shrink numbers and take corrective actions.
Manage and direct preventive maintenance and repairs in order to maximize and protect all physical assets (i.e. building, fixtures and equipment).
Ensure receiving, checking in, stocking of merchandise for the store is being done accurately.
Responsible for maintenance of back stock levels.
Oversee and assist with the daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor and warehouse.
Provide assistance in the overall general maintenance of the store.
Ensure forklift operations are completed in a safe and efficient way.
Ensure weekly price changes are being completed.
Ensure monthly cycle counts and negative on hand reports are being completed.
Ensure signage is current in the entire store.
Provide a clean and orderly sales floor.
Ensure special orders and rain-checks are being completed properly.
Ensure ad signage and products are ready for the customers.

Store Support Operations
Responsible for the efficient scheduling of employees using scheduling software.
Assist owners with the budget process for sales and expenses.
Manage payroll and other controllable expenses.
Responsible for the implementation of Store Support programs.
Responsible for successful Loss Prevention, Safety and Internal Audits.

Hiring and Training of Associates
Conduct monthly supervisor meetings and quarterly staff meetings.
Ensure effective training and development of all associates and cashiers.
Manage and support the hiring, scheduling, reviewing, coaching, and disciplining of all store staff members; and terminations as necessary.
Actively recruit and promote the advancement of team members.

Leadership
Challenge all associates to think of ways to better merchandise product, control expenses and increase sales.
Lead by example; be approachable to all associates and customers.

Other Essential Requirements

Education/Training
High School or GED equivalent required.

Experience
Must have previous retail management experience. Hardware experience preferred.

Physical Demands
Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs) and climbing ladders.

Compensation
The compensation range for this job (including wage, bonus, benefits) is $55,000-$70,000/yr
