    Position Purpose:
    The purpose of this posting is to create a pool of talented Social Studies teachers to be reviewed as potential candidates for full time Social Studies positions during the 2024-2025 school year.     Social Studies teachers work under the general supervision of their school principal performing the essential performance responsibilities listed below.Under the guidance of the school administration, the teacher will prepare and deliver curriculum and instructional activities; will be responsible for differentiating instruction and data analysis of student achievement; will participate in all required meetings (department, team, data, etc.) and provide appropriate feedback to students and families.
    Essential Performance Responsibilities
    The primary function of a CREC teacher is the planning for and effective delivery of instruction and assessment of student learning, in alignment with the Danielson Framework, with the incorporation of the CREC Core Values: Expect Excellence, Demand Equity, Act with Courage, Embrace Collaboration. In addition, a CREC teacher:
      Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
      Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
      Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for Social Studies and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
      Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
      Establishes positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues and maintains high expectations from all their students.
      Develops cognitively engaging and rigorous lesson plans with culturally relevant instructional materials for the subject area.
      Designs meaningful learning activities, opportunities and project based units that demonstrate inquiry, problem-solving, and 21st Century skills.
      Utilizes current researched based instructional strategies, appropriate instructional technology and pedagogy.
      Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including- but not limited to- students with special needs and multi-language learners,
      Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
      Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
      Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
      Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
      Coordinates and collaborates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
      Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
    Additional Duties
    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

    Qualifications Profile:
      CT State Certification as a Social Studies Teacher (#026 or #027 as appropriate).
      Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
      Knowledge of a wide range of social studies subject areas.
      Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
      Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
      Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
      Ability to organize and coordinate work.
      Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
      Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
      Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
    Education:
      Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
      Master’s Degree preferred.
    Experience:
    Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
