Capitol Broadcasting Company is Hiring a WRAL-TV Research Director Near Raleigh, NC

WRAL-TV has a rare opportunity for a Research Director to join our award-winning, ratings leading team. The Research Director is responsible for overseeing and conducting research projects related to television programming on linear and Connected TV platforms, digital statistics, radio listenership, audience analytics, and market trends. This role involves managing data collection and analysis, and providing strategic insights to inform programming decisions, marketing strategies, and advertising sales.
WRAL News is carried on WRAL (NBC), WRAZ (FOX), WRAL News (channel 34, cable, CTV, FAST channels, radio) and on all our owned digital channels. The Research Director compiles data from all these sources to help our advertisers reach their customers and grow their businesses.
Responsibilities:
  • Research Strategy and Planning
    • Develop and implement research strategies to support WRAL News’ strategic goals.
    • Plan and design research projects, including defining, objectives, methodologies, and timelines.
    • Prepare program estimates and scheduling in Wide Orbit
  • Data Collection and Analysis:
    • Oversee the collection of qualitative and quantitative data from various sources, including surveys, focus groups, and audience measurement tools.
    • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights related to viewer behavior, preferences, and market dynamics.
  • Reporting and Presentation:
    • Preparing comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate research findings to stakeholders, including senior management, sales and programming teams, and advertisers. Serve as the subject matter expert.
    • Present insights and recommendations to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Work closely with internal departments such as programming, marketing, advertising sales, digital teams to align research initiatives to meet the company’s business needs.
    • Station leader for data-driven sales and marketing strategies. Directly impact new revenue streams through ability to recommend marketing solutions and highlight strategic business opportunities.
    • Build and maintain relationships with external research partners, vendors, and industry organizations.
  • Market and Competitive Analysis:
    • Monitor industry trends, competitive activities, and technological advancements in television and media.
    • Conduct competitive analysis to benchmark the company’s performance against competitors.
    • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards for tracking and activating monthly sales data.
    • Stay current with the latest research methodologies, tools, and technologies.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Market Research, Communications, Media Studies, Statistics, or a related field.
    • Proven experience in television research, audience measurement, media analytics and metrics.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable insights.
    • Proficiency in research tools and software such as Nielsen and comScore.
    • Knowledge of the television industry, including programming, advertising, and digital media trends.
