Description

Job Overview: 

The Tile Setter is responsible for accurately measuring, cutting, and installing tiles to create aesthetically pleasing and functional surfaces. They work with various types of tiles including ceramic, porcelain, marble, granite, glass, and mosaic tiles. Tile setters must have a keen eye for detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and a good understanding of construction principles. The Tile Setter is a regular full-time hourly non-exempt position reporting directly to the Office Manager. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Prepare surfaces for tile installation by cleaning, leveling, and smoothing them. This may involve removing old tiles, debris, and adhesives, as well as repairing any imperfections in the surface.

· Accurately measure and lay out the area to determine the placement of tiles. This involves calculating tile quantities, determining tile patterns, and ensuring proper alignment.

· Use various tools such as tile cutters, wet saws, and grinders to cut tiles to the required size and shape. Tile setters must be proficient in making precise cuts to fit around obstacles, corners, and edges.

· Apply adhesive or mortar to surfaces using appropriate techniques. Set tiles in place carefully, ensuring proper spacing and alignment. Use spacers, levels, and other tools to maintain uniformity and accuracy during installation.

· Fill gaps between tiles with grout, ensuring a smooth and uniform appearance. Clean excess grout from tile surfaces and apply sealant as needed to protect the tiles and enhance their durability.

· Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications. Make any necessary adjustments or repairs to achieve the desired finish.

· Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. This includes using appropriate personal protective equipment and following proper handling procedures for tools and materials.

· Communicate effectively with clients to understand their preferences and requirements. Provide guidance and recommendations regarding tile selection, design options, and maintenance practices.

Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

· Certification or training in tile setting or a related field is preferred but not required

· Proven experience as a tile setter or similar role to include experience in both commercial and residential 

· Proficiency in tile installation techniques, including cutting, setting, and grouting

· Knowledge of different types of tiles and their characteristics

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical specifications

· Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

· Good communication and customer service skills

· Basic understanding of tools and equipment used in tile setting.

· Always display a neat, clean, and professional appearance.

· Able to work overtime as necessary to meet scheduling demands, this may include weekdays or weekends during a busy time.

· Must possess a mobile device to allow sending and receiving company communication via email, text, or phone

· Valid NH driver's license with reliable transportation is required.

Physical Requirements:

· Physical stamina and dexterity to handle the demands of the job, including lifting heavy materials and working in various positions.

· There is physical work required that will include handling boxes of tile, stone, buckets of mortar, shovels, wheel barrels, power tools, etc.

· Applicant must pass a medical exam, including a test to independently lift 50 lbs. from floor to chest height on a regular basis throughout the day, as needed.

· As a flooring contractor, much of our work requires kneeling for extended periods of time.
