Capital is seeking a Quality Control Mix Designer/Asphalt Mix Designer for our Quality Control lab in the Columbia, MO area. Their primary duties are to create durable, safe, and cost-effective asphalt pavement designs that can withstand traffic loads and environmental conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be creative in the lab and challenge past mix designs to help evolve with modified specifications and Balanced Mix Design Specifications.
• Research and Test sustainable methods to modernize asphalt mixes using recycled contents from the waste stream (Ground Tire Rubber, Plastics. Etc.)
• Evaluate EPD’s (Environmental Product Declarations) and how to measure impacts of our mixes.
• Work closely with our Plant Project managers to establish highest performance/best cost designs.
• Provides verbal and/or written tests results and reports to the QC Manager and staff.
• Collects and reviews data on existing asphalt and assesses results.
• Develop specifications for asphalt construction projects.
• Research and design new ideas for products and systems.
• Ensure that designs are functional, safe and compliant.
• Record test results promptly.
• Report and communicate test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required).
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous QC experience in a similar setting is a plus.
• Experience with super pave mix design, high modified asphalt, and testing.
• Ability to work independently under strict time guidelines.
• Proven track record of completing jobs while meeting all safety/budget/schedule goals.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule allowing for travel to different facilities.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug/alcohol screening, and background check.
• Must be able to work in a variety of positions throughout the day including standing, stooping, bending at the waist, at waist level, shoulder height and above the head.
• The employee will work primarily outdoors, exposed to inclement weather, and in proximity to chemical, electrical and mechanical hazards.
