Summary
The Special Procedures Technologist performs invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures and is responsible for the operation and quality assurance of film processing, patient monitoring and the x-ray equipment. The Special Procedures Technologist participates in the daily activities of the section by assisting as a scrub, float, and imaging technologist.MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

1. Fully competent to perform all procedures within the Special Procedures section of Radiology. Demonstrates competency and efficiency in the treatment, care and interaction with all patients to include adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
2. Fully competent in the technical operation of equipment.
3. Serves as liaison between the floor nurse, unit secretary and attending physicians as to orders, procedures, scheduling, status of procedures, and other related questions or concerns.
4. Assesses the patient, reviews chart for orders and lab results. Loads any pertinent prior imaging and insures completion of Safety Data sheet. Communicates with the Interventionalist as to the availability of all the above.
5. Prepares the patient for their procedure, answers questions within their scope of practice. Directs other questions to Interventionalist.
6. Provides a safe environment to include but not limited to radiation exposure, contrast administration and infection control guidelines/Universal precautions.
7. Maintains accurate record of patient care.
8. Responsible for adding charges, beginning and ending each procedure in the computer system to ensure proper patient billing for services.
9. Responsible for maintaining professional growth to include current methodology of procedures, equipment and techniques. Maintains annual mandatory hospital training.
10. Maintains exceptional guest relations with patient, visitors, hospital staff and medical staff to include the use of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you).
11. Actively participates in the clinical education of student technologists.
12. Monitors the quality of care based on on-going monitors striving for continuous improvement. Performs QA of exams prior to sending to Physician for dictation. Actively participates in Department’s Performance Improvement projects.
13. Actively participates in helping the department reach patient satisfaction goals by providing quality care, explaining procedures, and performing procedures in a timely manner.
14. Promotes teamwork within the department by assisting in all areas and using effective communication.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
ARRT (R) required. Cardiovascular Interventional (CV) or Vascular Interventional (VI) registry required. VI registry eligible individuals will have two (2) years to acquire registry. Failure to gain VI registry within 2 years will result in termination of employment. AHA (American Heart Association) CPR Certification provided through Cape Fear Valley Training & Development only.

Pay: $24.18 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 per week
