Transport Safety Operations Manager
Department: Cape Fear Transport Company
Location: Elizabethtown offices preferred but remote options may be available
Overview
The Operations Safety Manager will be responsible for managing equipment and safety procedures as they relate to loading and unloading as well as driver schedules and times. Additionally, they will manage inventories at certain company and customer locations and ensure that these locations always have supply continuity. They will also participate in dispatch and truck routing.
Responsibilities
· Perform lead Safety procedures and ensure employees are following those procedures correctly. Pre/Post trip inspections, Cell Phone Usage, Water Paste, tank measurements, and terminal procedures.
· Truck/trailer inspections for no lost or damaged equipment.
· New delivery site inspection. Inspecting new sites for tank sizes, tank color codes, safe entrance & exits, customer equipment, etc. Recording those notes and posting them to CE app for drivers.
· Participating in a weekend dispatch rotation with two other team members, receiving calls, text, and e-mails. Enter and dispatch all fuel orders thru the companies dispatch system:
o Inventory management
o Order Entry
o Dispatch / Routing
· Communicate the status of equipment and drivers to dispatch.
· Update and maintain current Equipment preventative maintenance.
· Maintain good working relationships with drivers and dispatchers, along with maintenance personnel. Use those relationships to stay informed but also for new potential hires and/or promotions as new positions transpire.
· Reporting any site issues to the customer promptly.
· Responsible for maintaining and ordering supplies. Gloves, Spill pads, drop tickets, water paste, sticks, Loading heads, gaskets, etc.
· Responsible for new driver onboarding.
· Ensure trainees are properly trained, trainee checklist has been completed and signed by trainee and trainer. Final ride along and stamp of approval for trainee release.
· Report any errors/issues to the Director whereby the error/issue either costs the company money, and/or created a service complaint with the customer.
Requirements
· CDL-A with Tanker and Hazmat Endorsement Preferred.
· Associate or bachelor’s degree plus 3 years work experience preferred.
· Strong organizational skills and able to work well in a structured environment.
· Detail focused.
· Ability to make continuous forward progress on multiple tasks.
· Possess computer/technology skills.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Commitment to Excellence and holding team to highest standards.
Key Performance Indicators
Safety
Operations / Safety Manager will be tracked on the following.
· Proper training for new drivers (Trainees)
o Pre/ Post trip walk around inspection.
o Tank inspection for product.
o Terminal safety procedures. Appropriate PPE.
o Navigating sites safely. Appropriate safety cones, flashers, etc.
o Safe fill measurements
o Report faulty customer equipment.
· Driver safety report for Quarterly and Annual bonuses
· Spills (excess 25gal)
· Product Cross Drop
· Preventable accidents. Damage to company or customer property.
· DMV Violations (Out of Service Violations)
Operational Effectiveness
Meeting commitments and making deliveries.
o Thorough inspections of equipment. Quarterly or monthly inspections on equipment to ensure drivers are doing their checks.
o Clear communication with dispatch. Communicating any truck or trailer switches that would prevent a driver from doing a specialty load (PTO). Communicating on driver’s days off and call ins.
o Dispatch / Routing duties: Minimizing dead Head.
o HOS: ensuring hours of service are met.
o Supplies are available for Mechanics and drivers.
