Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is Hiring a Construction Inspector Near Wilmington, NC

Job Summary

Incumbents in this position are responsible for inspecting utility construction to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and standards.

Essential Job Functions

  • Inspects sewer taps and water meters for compliance with relevant ordinances.
  • Inspects new sewer lines, water lines and lift station construction for compliance with specifications.
  • Inspects demolition of existing water and sewer service taps.
  • Observes and logs hydrostatic test of new sewer force mains and water lines.
  • Observes and logs camera inspections of new gravity sewer lines.
  • Checks and verifies construction “as-built” for accuracy.
  • Performs subdivision inspections for compliance with relevant ordinances.
  • Reviews and logs the Closed-Circuit TV inspections of new gravity sewer mains and services prior to state certification.
  • Ensures water mains are flushed, chlorinated, and sampled per CFPUA standards and specifications.
  • Observes and logs air/vacuum testing on newly installed sewer mains, services, and manholes.
  • Maintains daily log of all sites visited, work in progress, and status of project sites.
  • Prepares written reports.
  • Makes field inspections for ensuring that field construction adheres to specifications, construction best practices, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Maintains project status database.
  • Reviews project plans in consultation with engineers and assists with pre-construction meetings.
  • Locates underground utility lines, reviews maps and architectural drawings, and marks line locations.
  • Assists with field inspections of Capital Projects on an as needed basis.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in a role such as construction inspector, utility inspector or related work field.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina driver's license.
