    Job Description:
    Pond Cove is a large elementary school with 550 students in grades K-4 and 90 staff.We are high-performing with expectations of excellence and rigor in all areas of an educator's professional practice. We are seeking two kindergarten teachers that are positive, hard-working, and effective educators with high expectations for themselves and others. One position is permanent and one position is one year only.
    The successful candidate will join a team of five other kindergarten teachers (a total of six). This role includes planning, designing, and delivering engaging and hands-on lessons and implementing assessments to measure student growth and progress across all curriculum areas, including phonics, reading, math, social studies, and science. Pond Cove currently utilizes the Lucy Calkins Units of Study for reading, writing, and phonics, and Everyday Math. The positions include covering student recesses and/or lunches and collaborating with a large number of colleagues including school social workers, school counselors, special educators, extended learning coaches, and building principals.
    Certification Requirements: Maine Elementary Teaching (020)
    The successful candidate will demonstrate the following competencies:
    • A solid knowledge base of and ability to deliver rigorous and highly effective instruction and assessments across all curriculum areas
    • The ability to establish clear behavior expectations and predictable routines that foster a safe social-emotional and physical learning environment
    • Exhibit a growth mindset and foster a culture of growth and learning within the classroom, amongst colleagues, and school-wide
    • An awareness of school-wide needs and expectations and a willingness to embrace shared responsibility, including fulfilling duties and attending meetings outside of the school day
    • Takes initiative and has the ability to recognize needs and take ownership to proactively problem solve
    Professional Qualifications:
    • Accepts shared responsibility for supporting all children, including meeting the needs of a wide range of learners
    • Ability to collect and analyze data and use it to inform and deliver differentiated instruction
    • Models nondiscriminatory practices
    • Knowledgeable about school law and legal responsibilities
    • Preferred experience/training in the following:
      • Everyday Mathematics
      • Lucy Calkins’ Units of Study for Teaching Writing, Reading, and Phonics
      • NWEA and DRA assessments
      • Responsive Classroom
      • Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions
      • Response to Intervention (RTI)
    • Build a community of learners who respect and care for each other
    • Provide students with engaging, hands-on, and high-interest lessons/learning opportunities
    • Meet student needs, including social-emotional, academic, and behavior
    • Share ownership of students for all aspects of learning and fulfill supervision duties (e.g., recess, lunch, etc.)
    • Be able to pivot quickly when changes happen (e.g., schedule changes, support and attend school assemblies and events, fulfill coverage needs, etc.)
