Job Summary
Works under the direct supervision of the Team Lead, Interpretation & Translation Services. Receives guidance, direction and work coordination from the Specialist, Interpretation & Translation Services. May receive guidance and direction from the Senior Associate Interpretation & Translation Services. Responsible for providing Consecutive Interpretation and Translation Services to non-English speaking parents and students at assigned schools. Interpret conversations from one source language to another target language on-site or remotely in real time. Translate concepts contained in original text into the target language accurately applying the rules of spelling and grammar. Work in school-based environment providing vital services one-on-one or in group settings. Serves as the liaison between families and school personnel. Makes non-routine choices within established precedent, considering objectives, under limited supervision. Performs intermediate troubleshooting or analysis; problems require interpretation of data using generally prescribed procedures. Frequent interaction to provide basic information and/or occasional interaction requiring detailed procedural explanations or technical responses.
Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions
  • Interpretation Services: Complete screening and assessments, including the ASQ-3 with students and the ASQ-SE with parents.
  • Translation Services: Translate all classroom materials including but not limited to newsletters, teacher bios, class activities, announcements, etc.
  • Home Visits: Coordinate teacher scheduling, contact families to schedule visits, translate documents and interpret during visits at the family home.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Coordinate teacher scheduling, contact families to schedule meetings, translate documents and interpret during the meetings at school.
  • Health & Nutrition Services: Attend special diet meetings with families to provide interpretation services. Contact families to discuss health outcomes, schedule meetings or request documents. Assist with health, dental and nutrition roundups. Translate menus including menus for special diets.
  • Inclusion Services: Interpret assessments, attend evaluation, referral and parent meetings if requested to provide services to families. Contact families to discuss the outcomes of evaluations, schedule meetings or request documents.
  • Family Advancement: Provide interpretation services for events, orientations, coaching sessions, and graduations. Provide or coordinate home visit interpretation support for Learning @ Home.
  • Admissions & Recruitment: Complete English Language Learner (ELL) screening for enrolled students. Provide interpretation services at Family Enrollment Meetings (FEM) in support of Health Services. Attend recruitment events to assist families with the application process.
  • Marketing: Translate agency documents and record agency messages for enrolled families. Provide feedback and support to the agency Spanish translator, as requested.
  • Family & Children Services: Provide interpretation and translation services for Burmese speaking families at Family Connection meetings and FSP meetings. Provide Zomi support if requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and requested including job functions identified on the Integrated Service Delivery document.
Required Education/Experience
  • 2 years interpretation and translation experience.
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. preferably with a broad range of courses that focused on grammar, writing, and comprehension in foreign languages and English.
  • Interpretation and/or Translation Certification from a credible association, college or university preferred.
  • Beginner - Intermediate use of Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with computer assisted translation tools preferred.
  • Bilingual: Spanish/English or Zomi/English (Burmese a plus).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Must be sensitive to cultural differences, dialects, and expectations; knowing the words in different languages and understanding people's cultures.
  • Complete fluency and proven communication skills in English and native language with excellent written and spoken command of both languages.
  • Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
  • Ability to take initiative and work well under pressure.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc.
  • Advanced organizational skills, efficiency skills and excellent attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to completing assignments on a timely basis, frequently under tight deadlines.
Essential Physical & Mental Requirements
Employee is subject to standing, stooping, walking, lifting, and carrying objects throughout daily job performance. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds. Will be required to travel in Tulsa County. Exposure to all weather conditions and regular traffic hazard. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Work requires moderate attention to detail and deadlines between 15% and 45% of the time. Driving is required frequently.
