Position Summary:

Canyon Vista Medical Center is offering a scholarship opportunity for candidates interested in the field of Surgical Technology. Candidate must agree to be hired as a PRN Surgical Tech Intern and complete the didactic and clinical hour expectations outlined below. Canyon Vista Medical Center will pay for the full tuition of the Surgical Tech program through Dignity College of Healthcare and the applicant must agree to Full Time employment with Canyon Vista Medical Center as a Surgical Tech for a two-year commitment once the program is completed. Candidates will be required to complete an additional application once interviewed before final selections are made.

Candidates selected for the scholarship opportunity will become employed in a surgical tech intern position with paid hours for all clinical hands-on scrubbing (approximately 600 hours) and would transition to a full-time surgical scrub technician position after successful completion of the didactic and clinical hands-on hours. The expected minimal requirement is 30 hours a week during the college didactic and clinicals.

The didactic portion of the program is in collaboration with Dignity College of Healthcare Facility-Sponsored Program where all modules and instruction are completed during off hours at home (this is unpaid time to the intern).

Tuition expense is paid by Canyon Vista Medical Center directly to Dignity College of Healthcare for each candidate awarded a scholarship. All course work and clinical hours must be completed in 8 months or less from admission into the college.

The expectation is that the candidate will sit for the national certification exam through HPCT (Healthcare Professionals Competency Testing) within 3 months of completion of the program. 

After successful completion of the program, the scholarship candidate is obligated to work in a full-time capacity for 2 years. The 2-year commitment will begin after the candidate has successfully completed hospital-based orientation as a surgical technician which is normally between 3-6 months after the didactic and clinical course work is completed. If, for any reason, the employee is unable to continue their employment or does not pass the program, they must reimburse the hospital for the tuition which has been paid to Dignity College of Healthcare on their behalf. Their employment is contingent upon the employee’s work performance and the availability of work. 

Position Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Complies with legal, hospital and departmental policies, procedures and position requirements. Must obtain the following certifications within 90 days of hire; CPR.
