What you’ll do

The home base for this dream job is at our Home Office in Lone Tree. The following is a sneak peek into what a People Support Specialists' Day looks like:

The People Support Specialist’s primary responsibility is the timely, compliant, and accurate administration of leave and disability benefits for our Canvas family members. In addition, the People Support Specialist helps with new hire onboarding and administration of other benefits programs, including health, life, and retirement. The People Support Specialist serves as a front-facing ambassador of the broader People Team and is accountable for serving our family members with humility and empathy.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Leave, Disability, and Accommodation Administration
    • Serve as vendor and family member point person for inquiries, research, and problem resolution, from claim initiation to return to work.
    • Oversees ADA accommodation requests in conjunction with vendor, employee, and people leader.
    • Supports ongoing people leader education.
    • Communicate contributions, deductions, time off pay, and return to work dates with the Payroll Specialist.
    • Document conversations, track movement, and maintain up-to-date information in the HRIS.
    • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
    • Authors procedure and process how-to guides.
    • Prepares monthly metrics and reporting requests.
    • Conducts vendor experience interviews.
    • Serves as vendor platform expert.
  • Benefits Administration
    • Assist with questions and resolve issues related to coverage or eligibility.
    • Interact with Canvas family members regarding life event changes; notify vendors (if applicable) and make updates in the HRIS.
    • Perform frequent census data and file feed validations.
    • Participate in open enrollment planning, communications, and activities.
  • Onboarding and Orientation
    • Support new hire onboarding in partnership with the Talent team.
    • Ensure I-9 compliance and accurate employee profiles in the HRIS.
    • Provide guidance on how to enroll and use benefits.
    • Educate on self-service resources like the iCan and The Accord.
  • Compliance
    • Contribute to the team’s completion of tasks on the People Support compliance calendar.
    • Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
    • Assist in developing and documenting HR best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Support
    • Serve as the team’s backup for vendor invoicing.
    • Promptly respond to inquiries and requests in people assist and the people inbox.
    • Participate in individual and team goal setting and attainment.
    • Assist with special projects.
  • Other
    • Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
    • Comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
    • Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
    • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:

  • Fluent working knowledge of applicable leave and accommodation laws, at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated external and internal relationship-building and consultative interactions.
  • Strong math and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, regulations, and laws.
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms, MS Office, and MS Teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. This position requires strict confidentiality of all employee information and requires the incumbent to sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Requires knowledge of HR policies and compliance, in addition to HR laws supporting leaves and benefits administration
  • Pre-employment background review (components include criminal, employment, address, social security number, motor vehicle record, global sanctions, and sex offender).

Education or Formal Training: Associate or Bachelor degree in human resources or business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Minimum of two years in human resources, with leave administration experience preferred.

The starting pay range for this position is $25-30/hour, and final pay rate will be determined based on experience, education, and internal equity factors.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines, and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, and the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
