Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the Crafts-Trades-Custodial-Transportation Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education, $14.04 - $14.89 minimum starting hourly rate.

Purpose of the Job:The Head Custodian position operates under general guidelines provided by administrator, facilitates training for custodial crew, develops work scheduling and assigns work areas, evaluates custodial staff, has overall responsibility for providing a clean, comfortable (environmentally), and safe building where teaching and learning can take place.
QUALIFICATIONS:- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years custodial experience; previous supervisory experience preferred
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License
- Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public.
- Ability to effectively read, write, speak and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
- Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
- Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
- Must pass pre-employment physical
- Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
- Physical strength and coordination to operate the equipment listed.
- Ability to effectively supervise other custodial staff as well as follow the District supervisory evaluation procedures and timelines
POSITION DUTIES INCLUDE:- Develops work scheduling, assigns work areas, assigns tasks and monitors performance of custodial crew
- Facilitates training for evening custodial staff in proper use of tools, supplies, equipment and safety procedures as directed by Director or Operations.
- Evaluates evening custodial staff with support of the administrative supervisor
- Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements including the Four Core Beliefs and Traits and Skills
- Takes necessary steps to ensure a cohesive team working environment among the custodial crew
- Generates maintenance requisitions in a timely manner and follows up on them
- Keeps supplies in stock and properly stored
- Ensures that equipment is clean, safe and properly maintained
- Ensures proper operation of the heating/cooling systems including necessary work orders being placed.
- Develops a schedule that guarantees the proper cleaning, inspection and security of all parts of the building and grounds including playground equipment.
- When working days, sets up, cleans and helps supervise during breakfast/lunch session(s)
- When working evenings, sets up, cleans and helps supervise after-school activities (if evening job)
- Keeps all sidewalks free of ice, snow, rocks and other debris
- Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for school programs/athletic events
- Moves classroom/building furniture throughout the building as needed
- Performs regular custodial duties as needed through the day, including clean-up of bodily fluids
- Performs grounds maintenance as needed including mowing grounds that are not taken care of by district crews, raking/cleanup of leaves and weeds.
- Maintenance and care of the flagpole with the appropriate flag position designation each day.
- Maintain and update school marquee regularly as directed by administrator.
- Performs all custodial duties which may be assigned by the principal or designee.
- May fill-in for other custodians who are absent, especially the activities custodian for evening athletic events.
Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other:Cleaning materials and tools, basic repair tools, buffer, vacuum cleaner, lunchroom tables, snow removal equipment including shovel and/or small tractor, shampooer, etc.

Requirements for Essential Functions of the Job:Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; feel or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, waist to overhead, waist to floor and overhead to floor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally; be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges is generally quiet with occasional increase when working events or with equipment. Must be able to work in person.
Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute. Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy, synthesize and negotiate.
