CannabizTeam - Executive Search and Staffing is Hiring a Flavorist Near Tucson, AZ

Our client, an international expanding cannabis company is seeking a cannabis Flavorist responsible for developing flavors in several product lines to help implement product development and research and development strategies.

This role will focus on product development, and R&D and will be the lead in developing new formulations of flower while working with sales and marketing on a cross-functional level. The ideal Flavorist candidate will have a background in chemistry or food science and a background in cannabis and food & beverage industries.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop new flavors or modify existing ones to meet client specifications or market demands. This involves combining different natural and synthetic flavoring substances in precise proportions to achieve desired taste profiles.
  • Conduct research on flavor trends, consumer preferences, and emerging ingredients to stay ahead in the industry. This includes experimenting with new flavoring ingredients and techniques to innovate and improve flavors.
  • Work closely with food scientists and product developers to incorporate flavors into food and beverage formulations. They ensure that the flavoring ingredients are compatible with other components of the product and remain stable during processing and storage.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations and quality control tests to assess the flavor, aroma, and overall quality of finished products. Flavorists may also troubleshoot any flavor-related issues that arise during production.
  • Stay updated on food safety regulations and guidelines governing the use of flavoring substances. They ensure that flavors comply with regulatory requirements and labeling regulations in different countries and regions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and production, to understand customer needs and preferences and develop flavors that align with brand objectives.
  • Maintain detailed records of flavor formulations, ingredients, and production processes for quality control, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property purposes.

Skills and Requirements:

  • BS or advanced degree in a relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, food science, sensory science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in cannabis channel marketing and/or consumer goods marketing
  • Minimum of 5 years in food and beverage industries
  • Experience in flavor development, product formulation, or sensory analysis, preferably in the cannabis industry or related fields. Experience working with botanical extracts, essential oils, or natural flavors preferred.
  • Experience with cannabis cultivation, extraction methods, or product manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of cannabis biology, chemistry, and pharmacology, including knowledge of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other bioactive compounds.
  • Familiar with sensory evaluation techniques and aroma profiling, to assess the flavor, aroma, and overall sensory attributes of cannabis products and formulations.
  • Understanding of chemistry principles and analytical techniques used in flavor chemistry, such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000 based on experience plus benefits
