Job Summary

A Medical Physicist who has been approved by the Atrium Health Medical Physics

Residency Steering Committee to participate in a postgraduate experience within the Department of Radiation Oncology.

The Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute resident curriculum is designed to fulfill American Board of Radiology (ABR) requirements for obtaining Board Certification in the specialty of Therapeutic Radiologic Physics within a 2-year program. The residency is structured following the recommendations of AAPM Report 249 which provides two years of structured hands-on clinical training covering all aspects of radiation oncology physics.

Essential Functions

  • Completes established clinical and cognitive curriculum, educational goals, and objectives of the Atrium Health Medical Physics Residency program
  • Trains and practices medical physics under the supervision of senior residents or members of faculty and staff of the Radiation Oncology Medical Physics section
  • Remains engaged in all rotations including a cross-region training rotation
  • Completes oral examinations or presentations at the completion of each rotation as well as other periodic evaluations by the program director of the residency or designee.
  • Participates in regular meetings with the program director, educational conferences, group discussions, resident conferences/lectures and journal clubs.
  • Participates in the instruction and education of therapy or dosimetry students.
  • Complies with and helps accomplish the institutional and program requirements as established by the Committee (ACGME) and the Residency Review Committee (RRC) of the specialty.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent to moderate heavy lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying in excess of 100 pounds. Requires frequent walking, standing, stooping and reaching.

Manual dexterity required. Heavy concentration with computers. Environment is climate controlled. Exposure to radiation, chemicals, pathogens and patient body fluids.

Education, Experience and Certifications

A graduate degree in Physics, Engineering or a closely related field is required. Graduate degree from a CAMPEP- accredited institution or a combination of a related graduate degree with a CAMPEP- accredited certificate preferred.
