Cana Communications is Hiring a CAD Operator Near Kennesaw, GA

The primary function of a Low Voltage Design Engineer/Drafter is to research, design, and engineer documents for low voltage systems utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) knowledge and vendor materials.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Education
  • Required Minimum: Associate degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field.
  • Required: Industry related certifications (I.E. NICET, BICSI)
  • Experience
  • Preferred: 3 to 5 years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of CAD and manual drafting principles, practices, methods and techniques; knowledge of basic cartography and general civil engineering principles.
  • Knowledge/Skill to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Skill/Ability to: demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; read and interpret construction drawings and maps; prepare accurate detailed drawings from date supplied by field surveys.
  • Skill/Ability to: operate computer using standard drafting software packages, plotters; develop CAD and manual drawings for engineering projects; maintain complete, readily accessible files and records of survey office reports.
  • Skill/Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and outside survey and drafting supply vendors.
  • Skill in multi-tasking, coordinating simultaneous mental, manual and visual activities; skill in observing situations analytically and objectively and relaying details accurately; skill in communicating using telephone equipment; effective organizational skills; attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely; team play with excellent communications and interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel.
  • Ability to recognize and establish priorities; able to compute/calculate simple mathematical equations.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to eight hours);Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about; able to move or lift light articles in the normal office setting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and telephone protocol; basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The Low Voltage Design Engineer/Drafter will spend long hours sitting or standing and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The Low Voltage Design Engineer/Drafter will also have to do some lifting of supplies and material from time to time.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • The Low Voltage Design Engineer/Drafter is hired by the Director of Technical Services and is directly responsible to the Director of Technical Services.

AUTHORITY and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Low Voltage Design Engineer/Drafter is granted sufficient authority by the Director of Technical Services to accomplish all of the duties and responsibilities that are established for this position, to include, but not limited to, the following;
  • Create CAD drawings for engineering project; create and modify maps for special assignments.
  • Incorporate subdivision plats and drawing files into maps; plot new maps.
  • Copy project drawings; create manual drawings for engineering projects.
  • Determine material and equipment needs for each project; operate computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Prepare engineering sketches and specifications for construction, relocation, and installation of equipment systems.
  • Filing and Archiving – maintain database of both closed-out and working documents.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Maintaining a team-based work environment and strong relationships with fellow employees.
  • Ensure all work and materials meet quality standards in accordance with Company policy, procedures and requirements.

MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE

The Low Voltage Design Engineer/Drafter will be deemed to be performing in a satisfactory manner when the following occurs:

  • Must follow NFPA guidelines for documentation and plan submittal.
  • Must be able to perform accurate battery calculations and voltage drops.
  • Must be able to accurately layout and design fire alarm, CCTV, MATV, Voice/Data, Access control, and other low voltage systems.
  • Must seek support from manufacturer for proper layout and design of low voltage systems when in doubt.
