Campland on the Bay is Hiring a Recreation Leader, Seasonal Near San Diego, CA
Campland on the Bay is a full-service, destination RV resort. Located in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego, we occupy 40 prime acres on Mission Bay just east of Crown Point. The recreation leader’s primary role is to lead, engage, and supervise all recreational activities with sound judgement. Recreation leaders interact with people constantly, monitor all games and activities such that they take place in a safe manner, create an inclusive environment for participants all ages, control queues, enforce skateboard park rules, and perform other tasks as assigned by management. Pays $16.50/hour approximately 25-28 hours/week. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, days and evenings. EOE M/F/D/V.
During any given shift, a recreation leader performs some or many of the following:
Organize, manage, and officiate all games, tournaments, arts and crafts, special events and other activities as assigned. Games include, but are not limited to, dodgeball, soccer, basketball, capture the flag, wiffle ball, kickball, ping-pong, horseshoes, bean bag toss, trivia, and bingo.
Provide leadership in athletic activities and teach fundamentals of play and sportsmanship.
Issue and maintain equipment and supplies.
Ensure and maintain discipline and safety of guests in recreation areas.
At any event for which queues form, ensure guests move through in an orderly fashion and use the attractions safely; may check tickets or other methods used to show guests have paid to use the water slide.
Contact security as instructed by management.
Inform guests of upcoming activities and special events.
Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of guest participants and guest spectators.
Assist in operations and general maintenance of recreational areas, such as cleaning, maintain records, and complete forms.
Open and close recreation office and related facilities, including set-up/tear-down.
Adhere to all guest or employee injury and incident reporting policies.
Perform other duties as requested, developed or assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Maintain positive working relationships with recreation department co-workers and management, as well as employees and managers from other departments
Demonstrate knowledge of the rules and skills involved in running recreational activities such that they take place in a safe manner
Work effectively as a team member
Learn new skills, departmental and resort rules, regulations, policies and procedures plus multi-task and exercise good judgment
Communicate clearly with guests, vendors and employees
Customer service experience that ideally includes how to manage unhappy, dissatisfied or angry customers
Interact with guests in a friendly, courteous way to enforce water slide, pool and/or skateboard park guidelines and regulations
Approach guests, co-workers and participants with a friendly, courteous demeanor
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
On a continuous basis, stand and walk while supervising participants and monitoring playing areas
Intermittently, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist at the waist and extend arms above and below the shoulders while modeling various recreational activities
Push, pull and/or lift equipment which may weigh up to 70 pounds
Twist and reach for equipment
Sit or stand for long periods
Constantly interact with people
Regular exposure to a variety of weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, intense sun)
Exposure to potentially hazardous substances and chemicals and work on slippery or uneven surfaces
