Location - Branham High School

Calendar and Compensation

  • $*53,708.23 - $*75,537.67(CSEA Range 7)
  • 8 hours per day, 217 day work calendar
  • Generous health benefit options, including several that require no employee contribution for full family coverage
  • Eligibility for a one-time $2,000.00 bilingual (Spanish) signing incentive and $100 monthly bilingual (Spanish) stipend upon passing a test of Spanish fluency

General Description

Under the direction of the Principal or designee, the College and Career Center Specialist is responsible for assisting site administration and guidance advisors in the development of education, career, and occupational opportunities for students and provides direct support to students, parents, and members of the high school community.

Primary Responsibilities

Specific functions for the College and Career Center Specialist position include:

  • Under the direction of the Principal and Guidance department, set and meet rigorous goals for increasing college and career readiness for students, including underrepresented student populations, in alignment with site’s LCAP and WASC goals
  • In collaboration with Guidance department, ensure that students identify the postsecondary options that are the best fit with their aspirations and interests
  • Provide support so that students and families understand application processes and timelines for postsecondary options
  • In coordination with the Guidance department, develop year-long action plan to meet the site’s college and career center goals
  • Gather, analyze and track data related to site’s college readiness
  • Organize visits and presentations by college and other post-secondary program representatives
  • Organize field trips and activities at colleges, universities, and industry partners
  • Initiate and coordinate programs sponsored by community based service organizations
  • Prepare and maintain a list of available scholarships and community service opportunities; provide information to students and families
  • Keep current on all financial aid opportunities and provide support to students in timelines and processes for completing applications
  • In collaboration with Guidance department, coordinate and oversee supervision of the annual PSAT
  • In collaboration with Advisors, assist in administering self-appraisal tests and measures
  • In collaboration with counselors and Advisors, conduct workshops on resume writing, college applications, financial aid, and college essay writing
  • Research and select appropriate college and career materials and maintain an up-to-date ‘library’ and website of these materials
  • Present information to various groups on college, career, and financial aid opportunities
  • Assist with data collection and tracking of students in college preparatory programs (such as AVID)
  • Compose and implement graduating class surveys and generate reports on graduating class college plans, scholarships, etc.
  • Prepare other related reports as required by the school or district
  • Assist with the coordination of Senior Awards Night
  • Monitor, track and support development of various letters and correspondence
  • Supervise student assistants and/or parent volunteers to provide additional support in college and career center
  • Perform other duties/skills related to job description as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • College degree required.

Working Conditions

Environment: Office environment

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 87.5% of time
  • Constantly operate a computer keyboard, calculator and other office machines
  • Ability to communicate and accurately exchange/provide information
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials
