CAMP4 Therapeutics is Hiring a Principal Scientist, CNS Discovery Near Cambridge, MA

Principal Scientist, CNS Discovery
CAMP4 Therapeutics is seeking an innovative, passionate and experienced scientist to join our highly skilled discovery team responsible for driving projects from target selection through development candidate selection. A successful candidate will drive cutting-edge science to develop antisense oligonucleotide drugs against regulatory RNAs, a novel class of targets to treat a range of CNS/neurology diseases. Working closely with colleagues in the Discovery team, as well as the platform, chemistry, and data sciences teams, this position will independently make key contributions in initiating drug discovery programs and executing existing programs. The candidate will be a rigorous and creative scientist with a proven track record in the field of neuroscience drug discovery as evidenced by high impact publications and experience leading CNS drug discovery programs in an innovative and fast-paced biotechnology setting. This position reports to the VP of Discovery.
What you will do:
  • Lead early-stage drug discovery projects from target selection through development candidate selection in a collaborative and matrixed environment, including both individual contribution and oversite of cross-functional activities.
  • Serve as a thought leader/internal expert in CNS and Neuroscience drug discovery and actively partner across all functions, including representation of projects to Leadership Team.
  • Execute in vitro and in vivo proof-of-concept studies and evaluate pharmacology of antisense oligonucleotides targeting regulatory RNAs to generate comprehensive nonclinical data packages to inform translational strategies across efficacy, safety, and biomarker development.
  • Author internal research reports and contribute to regulatory documents (IB, IND, etc) in support of regulatory submissions for clinical development.
  • Technical oversite and mentoring of Scientists to facilitate career growth and personal development.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience (or related field) >5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of drug development, including screening strategies and lead optimization, target validation, and pharmacology principles.
  • Experience leading cross-functional drug discovery programs.
  • Hands-on experience with primary rodent / iPSC neuronal culture systems and mouse efficacy / pharmacology models, including principles of in vivo study design to assess efficacy and pharmacology.
  • Broad expertise across molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques, including analyses of RNA and protein, microscopy, electrophysiology (e.g., MEA), tissue analyses, etc
  • Experience and/or background in oligonucleotide therapeutics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of transcriptional regulation, epigenetics or signal transduction is desirable.
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior scientists, including technical oversite and personal growth.
  • Who you are:
  • Mission-driven scientist with a deep commitment to advancing novel therapeutics to serve patients with significant unmet medical need.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with an open and flexible mindset capable of conceiving and execution of fit-for-purpose strategies to meet evolving demands of projects and company.
  • Dedicated to communication and collaboration within Discovery and across all functions.
  • Self-motivated and with a tenacious work ethic
  • Comfortable handling parallel tasks, identifying key areas of focus, and delivering within fast-paced deadlines.
  • A strong communicator who can clearly articulate viewpoints in both written and verbal formats

About CAMP4:
CAMP4 is developing disease-modifying treatments for a broad range of genetic diseases where amplifying healthy protein may offer therapeutic benefits. Our approach amplifies mRNA by harnessing a fundamental mechanism of how genes are controlled. To amplify mRNA, our therapeutic ASO drug candidates target regulatory RNAs (regRNAs), which act locally on transcription factors and are the master regulators of gene expression. CAMP4’s proprietary RAP Platform enables the mapping of regRNAs and design of optimal chemistry to generate potent therapeutic candidates to address hundreds of genetic diseases across multiple tissues.
