This is a part-time hourly position; documented 35 hours a week (140 hours a month). Hours will fluctuate with seasonal events. Benefits do not apply to this position.

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries provides leadership to nurture an authentic faith in God in children (birth – 5th grade) and youth (6th – 12th grades) help them realize God created them, loves them, and has a purpose for them. Prepare children and youth to live their lives in God’s mission in the world – locally and globally, so that Camp United Methodist Church can more intentionally and faithfully serve as “a caring community that invites and equips people to follow Jesus.”

DUTIES:
· Provides curriculum, recruits, and supports volunteers who serve in the ministries for children, including but not limited to, Sunday School, Children’s Church, Wednesday Camp Kids, and other educational events as needed.

· Plans, coordinates, and implements the ministries for youth including, but not limited to Middle School and High School Sunday School,Bible Study opportunities, and other educational events.

· Plans, coordinates, and implements youth events including, but not limited to, the Confirmation process, retreats, Graduate Recognition Sunday, and other events involving youth.

· Create activities for children during worship.

· Coordinates meals for children during Camp Kids on Wednesday nights.

· Provides leadership, vision, planning, and recruiting for volunteers and hourly workers who serve regularly and in events including, but not limited to, Children’s Christmas Events, Easter Events, Vacation Bible School, and other educational events as needed.

· Prepares and leads the message for children’s time during church services and/or coordinates volunteers to do so.

· Plans and implements fun outings for the children.

· Oversees acolyte training and scheduling.

· Supports the associated ministries for youth such as missions, church league sports, and music ministries, and coordinates with other ministries in the Church.

· Promotes participation in district and conference youth events.

· Recruits, develops, and supports adult volunteers and youth.

· Plans and implements an annual parent orientation to Camp’s Children’s and Youth Ministries.

· Implement the Safe Sanctuaries policy and procedures for Children’s and Youth Ministries.

· Maintains up-to-date contact information, medical information, etc. for children, youth, and their families.

· Develops and maintains a children’s and youth ministry budget with the guidance of the Finance Committee Chairperson.

· Attends periodic staff meetings.

· Participates in planning meetings and opportunities of any group that involves the children and youth of the church.

· Ensures that all information concerning Children’s and Youth ministry and associated ministries/missions is publicized to the youth and the congregation through various channels including, but not limited to, monthly CUMC newsletter, worship bulletins, and CUMC social media.

· Serves as the primary resource person to youth and their families on issues of children and youth and faith including baptism, visitation, and limited open-door counseling.

· Welcomes guests with children and youth.

· Serves as Chair of the Safe Sanctuaries Committee and a member of the Children’s Ministry Team. Develops new ministry opportunities with the advice and counsel of the pastors and the Youth Ministry Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Educational background or experience with children and/or youth. Degree preferred.

· Church-related work either as an employee or a volunteer (preferred).

· Experience in working in a group environment (preferred).

· The ability and desire to work with children, youth, and adults.

· Clear state and national background checks.

· A desire to be part of a team ministry.

· Clear oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to recruit and equip volunteers in the Children’s and Youth Ministries.

· Strong organizational skills.

· Self-motivated with the ability to perform tasks independently.
