Job Description: Community Wellness Manager (Camp Social Worker)

Who We Are: Camp Tel Yehudah’s dynamic program of experiential education, activism, and leadership development, connects teens to Israel and Judaism. As Young Judaea’s national teen leadership camp, we are a community dedicated to fun, friendships, learning and social action.

About the Position: Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Community Wellness Manager is the primary professional responsible for the development of successful mental, social, and emotional health support structures for all members of the Tel Yehudah Community. This is a seasonal summer full-time non-exempt position, with part-time hours before summer session begins.

Essential Job Functions:

Before the summer season:

  • Work with Directors on staff training and developing a plan for ongoing staff learning
  • Assist in development of intake forms
  • Assist in processing of intake forms in camper database

During the summer season:

  • Be present at camp on-site for the full duration of camp (housing is provided), weaving yourself into the fabric of the camp community
  • Be in contact with parents of campers when concerns arise, and report these conversations to camp director
  • Supervise camper care and staff care teams
  • Implement a proactive “camper notes” system/tool that empowers bunk staff to proactively and regularly identify and report individual campers’ issues and emergent concerns about social dynamics among peer groups
  • Consult with staff about individual camper and group issues, provide staff with guidance for difficult conversations, intervene when camper needs are beyond staff skill set
  • Offer emotional support and guidance to individual campers and staff members as needed
  • Communicate relevant information about specific campers to merakzim and madrichim
  • Assist in designing and leading training for staff about community and self-care
  • Work with camp medical staff to ensure and promote the health and wellness of all campers
  • Create a plan for ongoing staff training on areas of mental health in camp
  • Attend Leadership Team meetings
  • Record notes about mental health interventions and situations, successes, and challenges, in our camp database
  • Facilitate discussions, when needed, between counselors, unit heads, and leadership staff, as a mediator
  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the MESSH Team to support the Mental, Emotional, Social, and Spiritual Health of the camp community
  • Participate in camp activities and be an involved member of the staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Psychology with 2 years of practical experience with teenagers and/or families
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a team member
  • Willingness to reside at camp for the duration of camp
  • Demonstrated ability to work with teenagers
  • Demonstrated ability to accept guidance and feedback
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in a variety of camp settings

Salary Range: $1500-$2500 per week, room and board

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $1,500.00 - $2,500.00 per week
