Camp Van Driver

ELSO INC. is a Portland based non-profit organization providing outdoor STEAM based science
summer day camps with hands-on experiential learning programs for Black and Brown youth to
Experience Life Science Outdoors. Our mission is to empower youth of color to explore the
possibilities of careers in science fields, by exposing them to unique outdoor learning
opportunities, while nurturing a love for the outdoors. We strive to accomplish this mission
through implementing a summer program experience in a day camp format, which includes daily
field trips for youth in K-8th grade. The Wayfinders program provides culturally relevant
environmental and STEAM education. This program intertwines four main areas: life science,
ecology, community, and cultural history.

Description: The role of a Camp Van Driver is to safely transport camp participants and camp
guides to and from field trip location sites. In addition to transporting campers/guides safely,
Camp Van Drivers must stay on the daily camp schedule and strive to arrive on time to all field
trip sites/locations.

Essential Job Functions
Passion and interest in supporting science and environmental learning opportunities for

underrepresented youth

Culturally competent- experience working with children of color from diverse

backgrounds

Transport youth K - 8th safely to and from camp sites/location
Unload, load and clean vans daily
Ensure health and safety of participants (including emotional, and physical well being),

ensure campers are safe, stay on task and are respectful during transportation

Enforce rules and behavioral expectations as needed, follow behavioral management

and safety protocols before departing for field trips

Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with Camp Guides and Wayfinders

Program Director

Close attention to details which include time management (staying on schedule)
Report all accidents, problems, and successes to W. Program Director (maintain and

complete a daily log)

Experience or interest in driving 15 passenger vans

Skills and Qualifications
Must have clean background check, valid drivers license and driving record

Must be at least 25 years old to apply.
Volunteer and/or work experience with driving 15 passenger van

Compensation:
This is a seasonal employment position. Hourly rate of $20 - $22/hr based on experience
(can earn up to a total of 40 hours per session)

Please Note: You are required to work all four of the following Summer Program sessions
as well as Wayfinders Camp Guide Training:

Wayfinders Program Session Dates:

Training: June 22st - 29th

(Times/Dates needing drivers TBD)

Camp: July 11th - August 5th 2022

(Hours: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00pm PST M-F ) (Hours to vary)

Session #1: July 11 - 15, 2022
Session #2: July 18 - 22, 2022
Session #3: July 25 - 29, 2022
Session #4: August 1 - 5, 2022
