ABOUT CAMILLUS : For more than 62 years, Camillus House has provided a variety of programs to address the needs of individuals who are mentally ill and suffer from substance abuse disorders, with the end goal of helping them achieve housing stability. THE POSITION: We are looking for compassionate professionals to work in a dynamic and rewarding environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team, proactively engaging homeless individuals still on the streets into housing and services through a unique, best practice model developed by Camillus. Camillus House Outreach Peer Specialists must be energetic self-starters, passionate about engaging and helping homeless individuals, have excellent communication skills, be attentive to detail, work well in a team and be relentless in driving outcomes. The Peer Specialist will use their lived experience to assist and empower clients, assist in addressing concerns they may have regarding housing and services, accompany them to appointments, monitor their progress on their goals, and use their own experience in order to guide and support clients.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will:

• Be able to understand and practice the mission of Camillus House.
• Have lived experience (formerly homeless, in recovery, has experienced mental health issues, etc.).
• High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in Mental Health/Social Work or a related field is preferred but not required; any appropriate combination of education, experience and/or certification will be considered.
• Be comfortable working directly with highly vulnerable populations with histories of mental health and substance to use their personal experience to assist in engaging individuals so the team can complete thorough needs assessments, develop service plans for clients engaged that help address their unique needs and assist in coordinating with inside and outside partners to secure services for the client (e.g. benefits, documents, etc.), with the goal of addressing issues and barriers so that they may secure and/or maintain housing stability.
• Be proficient in oral/written English and have the ability to effectively communicate with the homeless individuals
• Competency in MS Office/Outlook and other data entry programs preferred
• Be able to successfully complete background screening and toxicology test, have a Valid FL Driver License with clean driving record, and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis
• Available to work a flexible schedule, as needed

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: While not required, it would be great if the successful candidate also:

• Has prior experience providing peer support services to vulnerable populations and the homeless in particular.
• Have prior experience in an outreach setting.
• Is familiar with the homeless system of care (e.g. coordinated entry, housing first, HMIS)
• Is familiar with other services available to assist homeless persons, (Social Security, DCF, Medicaid, etc.)
• Is familiar with evidence-based models in a social work setting.
• Is Bilingual (Spanish or Creole)
