Cameron & Mittleman LLP is Hiring a Tax Associate Near Providence, RI

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Estate and Trust Administration accounting professional with proven knowledge and skills in the areas of estate planning strategies, trust administration, and gift and estate tax matters, along with a strong working knowledge of Rhode Island and Massachusetts probate and trust law.

Associates will have the opportunity to work with experienced attorneys who possess practice area expertise, allowing for collaboration in developing strategy and solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to direct your professional grown in this expanding practice area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and settle large and complex estates, probate estates, deceased grantor trusts, and/or terminating trusts;
  • Determine the value of assets of the trust or estate;
  • Prepare federal and state estate tax returns;
  • Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and address tax-related questions and concerns;
  • Perform daily, monthly, and annual administrative tasks of bookkeeping distributions, billings, and collections;
  • Act as a technical resource to colleagues within and outside the T&E Department;
  • Monitor current changes in tax laws and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge and skills in the areas of:

  • Rules surrounding income for trusts and estates; including knowledge of discounts, credits, or deductions that may be applied to save the trust or estate money;
  • Maintaining high quality communications with beneficiaries with a focus on client satisfaction and asset retention, including extensive interactions with clients and other professional advisors requiring the highest level of technical knowledge, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external business partners (attorneys, CPAs, and Fiduciary Accountants);
  • Ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient administration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Trust Administration, or related field, CPA or CPA-candidate preferred;
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the areas of estate planning strategies, trust administration, and income, gift, estate, and generation-skipping tax matters, including tax return preparation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the administration of estates, knowing the available elections, distribution requirements, and filing deadlines;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
  • Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong technical aptitude, and excellent written/verbal communication and critical-thinking skills; proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiarity with GEMS software preferred.
