IMMUNIZATION OUTREACH SPECIALIST

SALARY : $ 27,188.00 per year

SECTION I-JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY : Under the supervision of the Immunization Outreach Coordinator or designee. The Immunization Outreach Specialist performs moderately complex clerical and data entry duties and follow-up for the Cameron County Public Health Immunization Program in promoting ImmTrac, the statewide immunization registry, and the Pharmacy Inventory Control System (PICS) within Cameron / County.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Employee w ill accurately document all time worked.
  • Assists in performing education for the families of children who have consented to participate in ImmTrac to promote the registry and ensure appropriate information is obtained.
  • Assists in providing training, education and technical assistance on the use of ImmTrac to registry users, including searching the registry, reporting to the registry and conducting reminder and recall activities.
  • Implement various methods to identify and locate individuals with incomplete immunization histories for the purpose of updating Immtrac.
  • Assists in the maintenance of records of immunization client and outreach activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring the implementation of ImmTrac and PICS within the CCPH clinics, including the reminder / recall system.
  • Assists with the coordination of the Comprehensive Clinic Assessment Software Application (CoCASA), within Cameron County Public Health Clinic.
  • Responsible for ensuring the sensaphone system is properly working at all times.
  • Orders necessary supplies and equipment for department and maintains inventory of all purchases.
  • Responsible for maintaining program budget ledgers.
  • Assists with Quality Assurance Monitoring for the Immunization Program as needed.
  • Participates in functions aimed at increasing immunization rates and / or immunization-related education.
  • Participates in health fairs, educational and training sessions on immunization related topics as needed.
  • Works with contracted pharmacist to ensure state compliance requirements.
  • Responsible for communicating immunization alerts and other information to all entities receiving vaccines. Communication will be via telephone, face-to-face and through written correspondence.
  • Will serve as part of the "on-call" team in response to vaccine storage emergencies. Employee will be expected to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Will assist in the maintenance of the CCPH warehouse as requested.
  • Will assist in clinical duties as needed at the Cameron County Public Health clinics.
  • Other duties as assigned .

SECTION II-JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

Graduate from a school of Medical Assistants and have, and maintain, current certification / registration, with one (1) year of work experience- Or- high school graduate or GED with five (5) years of work experience, preferably in a clinical setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of public health laws and regulations. Knowledge of natural history of common infectious diseases.

Good communication skills (oral and written) and Spanish speaking ability. Knowledge of computer programs (MS word, excel, Power Point, internet).

Ability to work with confidential client information. Ability to work with public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas Driving Laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Must have reliable transportation. Employees of Cameron County may be required to work during any natural disaster or emergency.

Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the duties of the position. If additional assistance is required, employee must request assistance prior to performing the assignment.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS :

Occasional contact with other health, social, and educational care agencies, outside organizations. Frequent contact with clinic clientele.

Communication is via telephone, written communication and face to face.

INTERNAL CONTACTS :

Utilizes tact when dealing with County employees, health, social and educational care providers, and clientele regarding operations issues.

Constant contact with County Personnel. Communicating is primarily face-to-face, via telephone and through written communication.

RESPONSIBILITY :

Comply with Cameron County and Department of State Health Services rules / regulations and display a positive public image.

As a Cameron County employee, the identity of every client shall be kept confidential except to the extent necessary to carry out the purpose of an investigation, hearing, or judicial proceeding.

DIFFICULTY :

Judgement is required to ensure completion of job activities as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor or designee. Uses discretion to achieve work goals.

Initiative is constantly required to achieve work goals.

GUIDANCE :

As assigned by Immediate Supervisor or designee. It is the responsibility of the employee to know and maintain contact with their Immediate Supervisor or designee.

WORKING CONDITION :

Working conditions are primarily in a clinic, office, or community center.

This is not a Civil Service covered position.
