CAMC Health System is Hiring a Tech Assistant, Imaging -- Cardiac Cath Lab -- Heart & Vascular Center Near Charleston, WV

Provide various patient care activities, procedures, and other indirect assistance to the Medical Imaging Department.

Responsibilities

• Perform darkroom duties on a daily basis. Daily process of strips (am process) Copy films Stock film supplies Repackage film cartons for recycling. • Responsible for the weekly upkeep of all computed radiography cassettes. • Perform receptionist duties at the Medical Imaging front desk: Interaction with the patients. i.e. giving out correct preps and information regarding exams, etc. Directing patients and hospital personnel to appropriate areas. Direct phone calls to the appropriate area. i.e. fileroom, radiologist, organizer. Coordinate patient exams with other areas. • Transporting of patients: Completing the observation worksheet on each patient. Coordinating patient flow with appropriate areas in and out of the department. • Perform various indirect duties under the direction of a registered Medical Imaging technologist. • Apply principals of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient and self. • Provide practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals in assigned areas, such as computed radiography, department flow, policies and procedures, etc. • Practice aseptic technique as necessary. • Performs functions in different modalities (MRI, CT SCAN, etc. ) Performs various direct patient care activities (venipuncture, EKGs) procedures under the direction of a registered Medical Imaging Technologist. Independently and effectively prioritizes job responsibilities in a fastpaced and ever changing environment that has multiple demands/requests. Sets up and distributes contrast to the floors. Works with radiologists, physician's offices and lab to obtain confirmations for biopsies, needle aspirations, etc. (also involved interaction with physician's offices to obtain H&P and lab work). Responsible for implementing downtime procedures in the department when the Medical Imaging computer systems have downtime, reorganizing work flow of department and rerouting patients to other divisions as necessary. Splits studies in CT. Corrects assession numbers. • Performs fileroom duties, interacting with all medical staff and customers. File films Pull films in accordance with ACR film filing standards. File patient reports and films in Medical Imaging jackets. Set up jackets for interpretation by radiologist Look up reports in Quadris and relaying information to requesting parties. Retrieve x-ray jackets for requested physician at films sign-out window. Conduct problem resolution when problems arise. i.e. lost films, hostile customers, physicians, etc. • Maintain knowledge of and observe Universal precautions. • Maintain knowledge of and observe Imaging Department Policies and Procedures. • Responsible for daily checks of blanket and contrast warmers and refrigerator temperature checks. • Responsible for computer input. Modify orders, credit charges, add charges. Functions competently with all computer systems - Quadris, Teleradiology, SMS, Centralized Scheduling. • Demonstrate positive customer service and coworker relations. • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities of the department and institution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Common Duties and Responsibilities (Essential duties common to all positions) 1. Maintain and document all applicable required education. 2. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. 3. Comply with the company's attendance policy. 4. Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. 5. Perform work in a cost effective manner. 6. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Education: High School/GED. Formalized Training in Technical Assistance, MA, HUC, CNA, EMT or other clinical area Experience: None Substitution: Imaging student with 1 semester of clinical courses or TA program
