Provision of assistance to the Staff and to the needs of the physician in providing patient care under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse. Perform various direct patient care activities, technical procedures and dispensing of medications under the direction of a Clinical Nurse.
Responsibilities
• Assist the delivery room team by preparing the suite for surgical procedures in a timely manner. • Practice aseptic and sterile techniques. • Apply appropriate cleaning techniques in the operating room. • Participate during the course of the procedure by handing instruments and supplies to the surgeon. • Assist with applying the dressing to the incision. • Clean and restock the room assigned. • Assist with in-service and training of new personnel. • Take call as assigned. • Deliver quality patient care to all patients as delegated by the Clinical Nurse and according to hospital policy and procedure. • Collect, report, and record objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. Data collection includes observation about the condition or change in condition of the patient. • Perform treatments, assist with procedures, and dispense medication as prescribed by the physician according to hospital policy and procedure, and regulatory guidelines. • Dispense medications as prescribed by the physician, according to hospital policy and procedure. • Maintain a neat, clean and safe patient and unit environment. • Obtain patient X-ray or equipment as required for surgery cases. • Prepare the patients' chart for surgery, obtaining any incomplete or missing information. • Act as control officer for all personnel entering the Operating Room suite, for all incoming calls, visitor information requests, and for the intercom connecting the Operating Rooms, Laboratories, and Anesthesia to the control desk. • Answer the telephone, receiving and delivering messages appropriately. • Maintain the office supply inventory. • Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Education
• Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program (Required) Education: Must have completed a class in Pharmacology Experience: 2 Years of Surgical Tech experience (OR) 4 Years LPN Experience
