Audiologists work directly with our ENT physicians providing on demand hearing testing during clinic hours. We evaluate hearing for infants through geriatrics. We also provide outpatient testing in conjunction with the CAMC Cleft and Craniofacial Center, CAMC NICU, CAMC PICU, CAMC Rehabilitation Services, CAMC Employee Heath, primary care physicians, pediatricians, ENT’s, Birth to Three and the school system. Testing is primarily is completed in the office. Certain tests are completed in the NICU, PICU and Operating Room.
Responsibilities
• Diagnostic hearing evaluations for adults • Diagnostic hearing evaluations for infants and children o Conditioned Play Audiometry o Visual Reinforcement Audiometry o Immittance Testing o Otoacoustic Emissions Testing o Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing • Evaluation and Treatment for o Hearing Aids (pediatric and adult) o Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (Baha) o Cochlear Implants o Tinnitus • Employee Health Screening • Custom Earmolds for hearing aids and water prevention General Roles and responsibilities of Audiologists include knowledge and skills related to assessment and identification, management and treatment, and prevention and education. They have skills in analysis, using technology, interacting with patients, and communicating and collaborating with other professionals. Clinical audiologists may specialize in pediatrics, geriatrics, balance, cochlear implants, hearing aids, tinnitus, and auditory processing among other issues. They frequently work with other medical specialists, speech-language pathologists, educators, behavioral specialists, scientists, and allied health professionals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
