Provide technical, clerical, and surgical assistance to a Physician who is providing treatment for patients of the practice.
Responsibilities
• Perform clerical duties necessary to ensure an efficiently operating Maxillo-Facial Surgery Center. • Clean, sterilize, disinfect, and maintain dental and medical equipment and materials. • Assist surgical personnel with learning and maintaining skills required in medical and dental assisting. • Assist physicians with office dental and medical procedures and surgeries. • Prepare for surgical procedures by: preparing instruments and equipment, completing consent forms, performing glucose tests, performing pregnancy tests for female IV anesthesia cases, setting up elecenterosurgery for cases as needed, preparing cadaver/synthetic bone for osteotomies/augmentation, etc. • Administer nitrous oxide as directed by physician. • Assist physicians during procedures by: passing instruments to physicians, using central vacuum to provide suction and maintain surgeon's field of vision, maintaining patient airway, performing direct wound care as directed by physician, etc. • Take radiographs with portable x-ray machine. • Order/maintain level of supplies. • Document pathology specimens. • Answer phones and schedule patients as necessary.

Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. 3. Comply with the company's attendance policy. 4. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.
Education
• Formalized Training (Required) Experience: 1 year Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant Substitution: 3-5 years Dental Assistant Exp may substitute for 1 year Oral/Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant
