Two-way immersion develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students and contributes to the long-term preparation of students for the global economy. Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations in which each has equal status spurs motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation.
The Opportunity:
The Fourth Grade Two-Way teacher will provide students with instruction in Spanish and English in a self-contained classroom. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with grade level, cluster and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in the areas of ESL, SSL, and Special Education. The successful candidate must plan and implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population. The candidate will have experience planning, implementing and adapting ongoing curriculum, which is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, as well as the local Cambridge Learning Expectations for fourth grade. The candidate will work collaboratively with parents and guardians to engage them in classroom activities and school-wide events. Other duties as assigned.
